Accepted to Emory, Wellesley, Barnard, UCLA, UC Berkeley

Considering that my parent's EFC=0, I probably don't have chance with getting off waitlist, Right? I'm happy about three colleges I got accepted to, but I just really wanted to get into Brown, Rice, Duke........

In your opinion, where should I attend? I know I will eventually have to make up my mind, but any advice will be appreciated.

There is very little chance of getting off the waitlist. You should feel great about getting waitlisted, but I would not count on getting accepted.

Just looking at your accept schools, they’re pretty different places. Wellesley and Barnard are LACs (though Barnard is connected to Columbia), while UCLA and Berkeley are huge UCs. What kind of environment do you see yourself in?

You may want to check the course catalogs for the subjects you are considering majoring in to see which of the schools has greater breadth and depth of offerings in those subjects.

However, it looks like Berkeley and UCLA are too expensive (looks like you are out of state, since they are a lot more generous than that for low income in-state students).

First, congratulations! You have been accepted at a lot of great places. Fist off, I agree with the above poster, I would just drop the UC schools off your list simply for financial reasons. After that, think about where you want to be…do you want a city? the south? an all-women school? If you want a co-ed school, then it is Emory…if you want Manhattan, it is Barnard…if you want a lovely campus in the northeast it is Wellesley. You can’t go wrong.

Congrats on some really wonderful choices! Emory, Barnard and Wellesley are all great schools and which one you select should depend on the best ‘fit’ for you personally. As others have said, you need to figure out which school offers you the best mix of what is most important to you: location, culture, academics, etc…No bad choices here so you can’t go wrong. Just do the research and post your questions on the forums for those schools.

As for the ‘waitlisted’ schools, you can decide if you want to leave your name in or not, but proceed on the assumption that you won’t be admitted and even if you are, they won’t provide you with enough money. If lightening strikes and you do get in with enough money, you can think about it then - but it’s just not likely enough to waste time on now.
