Hey,
I have a C in my stats class and I was wondering if I should just skip the final and retake the class or try to stick it out for a C grade. I have As and Bs in all of my classes and this C taints my GPA. Thanks for the feedback
If you got a C in it there’s no guarantees you would get an A when retaking it.
So, instead of getting a C you’re going to skip the final and get an F? Other than ego protection (“I could’ve done better if i tried”) what exactly is the benefit you expect from flunking?
An F tanks your GPA even worse than a C, and while some schools do grade replacement, it’s not a universal thing. Grad schools could still see the F and consider it.
Stick it out and work your hardest to get a good grade on the final. I went through the exact same thing last semester with my stats class. Honestly thought I was going to fail it, but somehow I did well enough on the final to pass. If you set your mind that you are going to fail and retake it, you are just going to have to pay for the course again, as if colleges aren’t taking enough of our money anyway. you’ve already made it this far in the course so it’s def worth it to do everything you can to try and pass. It may hurt your gpa, but only by a little. Just make up for it by excelling in your future courses. Good luck!
What do you have to gain by skipping the final?
It seems unclear whether the class is in high school or college. In high school ask the teacher if there is something you can do to pass the class. If you can get a C by doing something like extra credit, do it immediately and very well.
A
If you’re in college, study until you know the material. Faculty really want students to succeed by their own effort. In college you will rarely find extra credit work (you should use your time to learn class content rather than doing something extra), there are do overs or test modifications or other ways to get a grade other than doing well on the final. In college, you probably will not have an opportunity to learn class content again. Therefore, you are expected to demonstrate competency in that class. Faculty are not moved by a student not needing that class in their major or student not need the class because of plans to pay profession sports. That class and its hours and quality points may be critical to the number of hours and GPA needed to graduate.
