@saintfan believe it or not I actually just did, apparently they actually told the guidance department at my school that if Stanford themselves haven’t expressed interest in a specific student, then they shouldn’t even apply with SAT’s below a 2300… Our valedictorian with a 2400 4.71 GPA and varsity wrestler and baseball player didn’t get in this year. Yikes…
U Rochester, American University, Bucknell, BC, Villanova
Will someone at least tell me if I need more probables or less, is this a good amount?
Do you seriously think you have a chance at Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, and UPenn? There’s nothing about your stats or extracurriculars that says Ivy-material. Your list would look good if you took those out and just applied to the remaining schools (UCB, Georgetown, UVA and Tufts as reaches, others as matches/safeties):
Providence, UVM,
BC, Villanova
Georgetown, UVA,
Phase two has the California schools:
UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara
UC Berkeley
Phase three:
U Rochester, American University, Bucknell, CWM, Tufts
I agree. I have a neighbor with very high stats but still Ivy = lottery stats and spent so much time and energy on Cornell that he didn’t get Tulane and Tufts which should have been matches. Don’t shortchange your solid options by frittering away your energy on super long shots. If you feel you must apply pick the one that feels like the best fit. You are all over the map with your super reaches in terms of atmosphere.
Those are exactly the comments I was looking for thank you very much, I will widdle it down to one or two of those that I really love! Thanks!!
The EA admit rate at Georgetown has been the same as the RD admit rate for several years, so there’s no real advantage to applying early. In addition, Georgetown ONLY considers the math and critical reading scores when evaluating SAT scores. I can’t tell from your OP if you’ve taken any SAT subject tests but Georgetown strongly recommends that you take 3, regardless of whether you’ve taken the ACT or not. I can’t tell from your posts if you’re a rising senior, but if you are, you might want to apply RD to Georgetown so that you won’t go crazy trying to take all your subject tests before the EA cutoff date.
Thank you, very helpful, I do have a 730 on the chemistry SAT II, I plan to take the Math II and one other one in June, I havent decided which of the tests I will be taking in June.
I would recomment a non-science one, since stem students often neglect that area and adcoms like to see you don’t.
Which one would you suggest?
whichever one you fel strongest in, could be Spanish or English Literature or US History…
I heard that World History was an easier one with a good scale typically, it also helps my case that I am taking AP english this year with hopes for a 5.
As a new update in lieu of May SAT scores: 780m 690wr 690r. Thats 2160 individual, 2190 superscored with 800m 700wr 690r.
That’s very good, congrats! Now, time to focus on your SAT subjects (including a non-science one).
Should make my application more competitive! I am currently registered for Math 2, chemistry (which I already have a 730 in), and world history… Debating switching one of them to physics…
Nice retake scores! For safety schools I would like at Ithaca College, Gettysburg, Simmons (all girls). With your new schools I would think Commonwealth Honors is a most likely. I remember you had Bucknell on you
With your new scores I think your original list is probably spot-on, especially our safeties and probables. I think Tufts and Bucknell are good reaches, maybe Georgetown?
730 is a good score. If you can score 730+ in physics, it’d be a nice complement to the chemistry score you already have - no need to retake Chem.
Thank you for that, the advice is taken well… It is just tearing because, after a year of AP chemistry, I am scoring 770 or so on practice tests…
I also switched up my list/strategy a little bit… let me guys know what you think.
early action schools: (Deadline is Nov 1)
BC, U Maryland,
Georgetown, UVA,
Regular Decision:
If into nowhere:
UVM, U Wisconsin, U Roch, American, Bucknell, CWM, Brown, Penn, Cornell,
If only into Maryland:
U Roch, American, Bucknell, CWM, Emory, Brown, Penn, Cornell,
If BC is highest choice in:
Duke, Tufts, Emory, Brown, Penn, Cornell,
If GTown is highest choice in:
Brown, Penn, Cornell,
I realize that I will have to start the applications for other schools before I hear back so I plan to do those early enough. Due to my schools strong connection with BC I am anticipating an acceptance there early action (knock on wood).
Well, you don’t HAVE TO take the Physics test … but honestly, 730 vs. 770 won’t make a difference.
