please help me with safeties!!!

I think my list might be a bit top-heavy and unrealistic....

Math:690 CR:630 Writing:590

SATII so far I've taken...(am retaking both in Nov)
Math IC:670 Literature:620
I'll also be taking Japanese w/ Listening in Nov ...but I except good scores from that as I know quite a bit of Japanese having lived here all my life. I don't speak it at home though... do you think taking it'll count against me?

TOEFL:297(computer based)

Dream school: Georgetown Univ. Other I'm applying to are Amherst College, Boston Univ, Univ of Virginia, Univ of British Columbia, George Washington Univ. Am applying to UPenn,Cornell,JohnsHopkinsUniv although I know I probably have very little chance of getting in.

Background: Mom is Taiwanese, dad Malaysian-Chinese. I've got a Malaysian passport but I've been in Japan my whole life. Attend international school. Female. Senior from Sept.

I'm an I.B diploma candidate student, take 4 higher levels (English, French, Economics, Music) and 2 standards (Math, Biology). I don't know what my GPA is, as our school doesn't calculate them until we're into our senior year – don’t know rank either…out of 33. Tiny school.

Grades wise, junior year was A’s except for a B+ in Econ. Am pretty much done with my CAS hours except for Activity…just got a few more left to do. For those of you who don’t know, CAS requires 50 hours of each category; Creativity, Action, Service.

I'm interested in Foreign Affairs / Intl Relations as a major.
Northeast USA I guess.

bump.......

Georgetown looks like it will be a reach particularly if you are applying to their foreign service program. Amherst might also be difficult although as an international student you might have an advantage. BU amd GW look to be matches. It's hard to predict Virginia and British Columbia. You might want to narrow down your choices by looking at IR programs that offer the type of study abroad programs you might want to attend. For example, if you plan on returning to Japan look for programs that offer Japanese and good connections to a study abroad program. However, since you are already fluent in Japanese perhpas mastering another language would be to your benefit and a study abroad program in that part of the world would be better.

Your list is very top heavy. The only two "decent chance" schools I see are BU and GWU. You need more schools in that range, and less schools in the "not likely" range. Some suggestions for schools in that range for you:

Lewis & Clark, Pitzer, U of Wisconsin, U of Oregon, U of Washington, Tulane, U of Miami, Earlham, Beloit, Clark U, Dickinson, Wheaton (Mass.), Northeastern U, Skidmore, Goucher, American U

A few of these might veer towards safety range if you applied Early Action if offered, or, in the case of Wisconsin, Oregon, and Washington, early in the rolling admissions cycle. You might also consider schools that do not require the SAT or make submitting test scores optional - several are on the list above, but you can find more at www.fairtest.org

Yes way too top heavy, your stats don't go with those schols, they're reaches...

International Relations...

Try Northeastern University instead, and there is also American, Dickinson, Colby, Clark, and Arcadia
