I moved to the united states in the middle of my freshmen year, got two years worth credit of my counties language ( Because you can earn language credits in middle school in my school). I am now a junior and wondering if I should change my schedule to include a foreign language. ( I will be taking Spanish 1 if I choose to take a language) . I don’t know if colleges will be content with just two years of foreign language ? I have now made a decision about what college I would like to go to
@teoblaese Even if you are a native speaker, selective colleges (like the Ivies, T20s etc.) HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you take a foreign language all 4 years of high school. Some colleges (like the UCs,) require 3 years of a foreign language (though I believe the UCs will let you take a SAT Subject Test or AP test to satisfy this requirement.)
TL;DR: If you’re able to while still challenging yourself in core classes (math, science, english etc.,) take Spanish or any other foreign language for the remaining two years of high school, and make sure you are taking the SAME language for those 2 years. I recommend talking to your high school guidance counselor if you have any questions about colleges in your state that might require 3/4 years of foreign language, or about any questions regarding your school’s curriculum.
Hope this helps!
