The undergraduate college I want to study at is, Yale. I have researched, visited, and met many alumni graduates there. I really enjoyed the positive ambiance of the motivatition. I really want to go here, I am a sophmore.
Currently I have a C in chemistry and A's and B's in everything else. All honor courses. I have yet to take the SAT's. My rank is in the top 25 Percent, however I lack EC's. How can I improve my chances, do I have a chance?
Thank you for any input, hope whoever is reading this also gets accepted to their favorite school.

Alright main suggestions:
Use this coming semester and junior-senior year to boost your GPA as much as possible.
Get INVOLVED at school. This is what could possibly make the slightest difference between a good and a great applicant.
Take AP classes. The IDEAL is AP classes and get As in them.. but AP classes with high Bs has more merit than an honors course in itself.
Study, prepare, etc. for your SAT or ACT! Don’t slack off on this!

And, when time comes to apply, if you’ve worked your butt off and sacrificed whatever you can for your goal, hopefully you can’t go wrong! Best of luck!

Jessical has great advice. Get involved in activities that interest you. Work as hard as you can, especially to get that C up in Chemistry. Take challenging classes.

BUT… realize that Yale accepts about 10% of the kids who apply. That means 90% are rejected. You can be a wonderful, well-rounded, intelligent person and be rejected. The overwhelming majority of people applying to Yale will not get in.

That doesn’t mean you give up - please, work hard in school and apply to Yale. But you also need to broaden your horizons. What exactly appealed to you about Yale? The size? Location? Use the Princeton Review site or some college guidebooks to look into other schools that might also appeal to you. Hopefully some of these schools will have higher admittance rates.

If you spend any time on this site, you’ll learn that everyone should apply to several schools: one or two that are “reaches”, like Yale; a couple that are “matches”, and most importantly one or two “safeties.” A safety is a school that you are sure will admit you - because your grades, class rank and SATs are above their average admitted student profile. A match is a school where your statistics match those of their admitted students. You can usually find the stats about students admitted to a particular college on that college’s website in the “admissions” section.

It’s great to have a dream college. With hard work, you may be admitted to Yale. But you also may not be, and you need to be prepared for that. Don’t give up, but do look around - there are many fine colleges out there, not all are nationally known. There are some “hidden gems” that may be perfect for you.

Good luck!
