Hey everyone.
I'm an international student from Bangladesh and I got in at Mount Holyoke and McGill University for Fall 2009, but am having extreme difficulty in deciding where to go. I plan to major in English literature, although I might also try something like psychology/critical social thought/ international relations.
Could you all please advise me where I should go and what the pros and cons of both are?
Thanks a lot!

They’re very different types of schools.

Small/large.
Quiet setting/city.
Personal/one of many in a crowd.

What kind of environment are you looking for?

Forgot something! Go to each school’s web-site and look for videos of the campus. If you look back far enough on CC you can find this for Mount Holyoke; a student posted a link that opens to a short clip of the school. She did this for international students who were unable to visit the school

What a fortunate position to be in. Good luck!

Congrats AnikaT on McGill and Holyoke…nice to see another Bangladeshi on CC!

Thanks for your reply, patc
@ Navid: Yeah. I rarely see Bangladeshis in this forum.

I had the exact same problem MHC vs. some of the Canadian Ivies and in the end I went with MHC. A really important thing is connections I don’t know if you’re planning to return to Bangladesh post-graduation, but if you want to settle stateside the connections and contacts that you make in college will take you a long way. While a canadian school may look amazing, it’s really not helpful for you if you don’t want to settle in Canada. I talked to people who had graduated from a number of Canadian schools (Dal, UofT and Queen’s) as well as a number of MHC grads, and the responses that I got were overwhelmingly in favor of a US education. I hope this helps good luck!

I am also an international student (from Pakistan).

Believe it or not, I was also confused between Mcgill and MHC for the fall 2009 semester… and I will probably be going to MHC this year. I think because I prefer the atmosphere of MHC compared to the hustle-bustle found in most Canadian Universities. Also MHC is part of the 5 college consortium, so it’s possible to transfer to places like Amherst College for a few courses.

Hope to see you there!
