I'd offer help in Arkansas, but it sounds like you have some excellent support above coming from right there in Texas. (Arkansas is taking many people from the N.O. area). You should take up someone, such as mary anna, on the offer to get your D into school to finish HS.

For college process, I am very hopeful your colleges of interest will be understanding. I feel certain they will admit her to college and waive fees. I'm only concerned for you about the highly selective schools that require auditions to get into MT. It sounds like OCU for example, who is willingly taking MT students this semester, will require that audition for those students in future semesters. Please take all the good advice on contacting all of your audition schools as mentioned above.

Also, I feel that many schools will probably waive application fee requirements for people in your situation. I also think that through the FAFSA financial aid process, you should be able to get major assistance with cost once she starts to college.

You might consider applying to at least one good school that does not require an audition so she will for sure have a place to go next fall. Two schools I would recommend for you are TCU and IU. IU's application does not require an essay and can be completed online in a fairly short amount of time. You should contact them about waiving the $50 fee. Both of these schools have great theatre programs and the opportunity to emphasize MT.

As I told you earlier....we would be more than happy to have you stay with us and do whatever we could travel, dinners, etc. when you come out to Elon! It is so absolutely wonderful to see such caring people stepping up to help. Please take all of us up on it when you get to that point. We mean it! I know this is not where you are right now. There are immediate needs to be met. So take care of what you need to just survive right now work, housing, whatever,..... and know that we will all be here for you when you need us!!! :-)

Noccamom and Noccadad - and all other NO MT Students

I live in Cincinnati - if you are considering CCM or Otterbein (about 2 hours away) you are welcome to stay with us. My D is a senior at the performing arts school here.

If you are going to stay in Houston, you should see if you can get your D into The High School for Performing and Visual Arts. http://www.hspva.org/ I don't know if they can take a senior transfer, but it is worth a try and they might make an exception under the circumstances. Best of luck and best wishes whatever you may do!

noccamom, i have a friend in management with hilton hotels. don't know if she could do anything or not, but she could make a call to one of the hotels in houston and possibly get you some help on staying there. I would be happy to call her if you'd like. just post back if that would help. my pm's are off, but if you're interested in that, i'll turn them on briefly.

Mary Anna is an exceptional acting coach and can definately prepare your daughter for her college auditions better than anyone you will find. She prepared my daughter and I cannot say enough great things about her! She could possibly even get her into Booker T. Washington HS for the Performing Arts here in Dallas to finish up her senior year. They do a Senior Showcase in November which all the top schools come to see their talent. You should definately contact her.

Oklahoma City University is accepting displaced college muscial theater majors at this time. There is no audition required for these students to be enrolled for this fall semester. And you're right Ericsmom, if you would choose to continue at OCU, you would be required to audition in the spring.

Just to reiterate, with a couple of specifics -- NOCCAmom and others, if you/your kids will be looking at American Univ. or Catholic Univ. (both in DC), or if you need a stopover point en route to Phila., NY or New England, please don't hesitate for a second to ask.

My heart goes out to you and your family - it's an unspeakable tragedy alone, and then to have to worry about your daughter's senior year journey - I can't imagine how you are coping -

I would suggest that you contact the Performing Arts boarding schools - my son graduated from Idyllwild Arts in southern CA and I know they have many, many kids there on scholarship - I think it would be worth investigating - they may be willing to reach out to help someone coming out of this horrific situation - they do a wonderful job of helping the kids prepare for auditions. Coming in as a senior is not unusual - there are many "one year wonders"! Interlochen and Walnut Hill would be worth investigating also.

We're a bit too far away from any of the audition sites to house you (Sarasota is 2 hours away from Orlando and 3 from Gainesville) but if there's anything else we can do to lend a hand, let us know. Was your D able to take her audition songs and monologues with her?

BTW, Game 1 of the Urban era went very well...Go Gators!

To Noccamom, So glad to hear you are alright please call us at 214-649-9262 D was very scared for S and B. We are in Dallas but will be leaving for Orlando tomorrow.

To all CC family, your thoughts and prayers are very appreciated. We are all well and healthy although house and cars are flooded. We will stay in touch.

thanks for the vote of confidence, Sissy!
I have PMed the mother and she has PMed me. I think we just might be able to make this work for them here in Dallas. It's in Gods hands.

NOCCAmom
I am not able to view your latest PM to me!!! Please call me at the number I gave you or email me directly at maryannadennard@aol.com

I wanted to update you about the NOCCA family.

So many of you have emailed me or PMed me and offered help. The theatre community is always so generous. I am proud to be among you!

The familyand their pets are in Dallas and living with me and my family/friends. The two teens have auditioned for the Arts Magnet school here and one of the better public high schools for fine arts. They all want them! It looks like they will start school tomorrow and that is great news. These kids are enormously talented. I am pleased to be coaching the senior for her college audtions for MT.

They will post on this board and give you all an update, but I do want to say this: They are one of the dearest families I have ever met. They are taking this devastation in stride and the kids have the most healthy attitudes about their plight. They are handling this with courage, optimism and a great dose of humor. The love they have for one another is a great source of strength. We have the utmost admiration for them and feel blessed that they have come into our lives.

Thanks again for all the offers of help. Hope you all meet them at Unifieds in Chicago. They are special people!

Mary Anna...you are an amazing person and are making a big difference. Thank you for all you have done and for sharing the good news here. Is this NoccaMom's family you mean? That is a different family from NoccaDad? Hope they also have found some positive solutions to this enormous difficulty.

Hoping for better days ahead for these families. People like you, Mary Anna, represent what is good in America.
Susan

Mary Anna,
I agree with Susan; you are very kind to do all you are doing for the Nocca family. I also would offer a place to stay in Tucson if she decides to visit U of Arizona.

Please let us know if you will be auditioning in our area of Hartford, CT. We would love to help in anyway we can...have a spare room and are close to the airport or train station. Please email me if we can help!
Eileen

What an angel you are! There are many, many ways to define a family and clearly, all of us here on CC have become extended family for one and other. What a remarkable story this family will have to tell generations to come and what a remarkable thing you have done. We must all remember that we never know when you will be on the side that needs help or be in a position to give it. As my family would say, this is a real mitzvah!

Besides what I already posted above, I was thinking AFTER I posted it, that your outreach is further testament to the bonds and connectedness and support of this forum. I am glad that Theatermom also has pointed this out because I was thinking the same thing. This forum goes behind just information. It is a very supportive group. I have met a few of you in person and hope some day to meet more of you. But even without that, we are connected supportive Musical Theater family here.
