Please help my DD decide! Northeastern, George Washington or Fordham (Lincoln Center)

She’s trying to decide between Northeastern, George Washington and Fordham (Lincoln Center)
Three great schools she’s going crazy trying to decide

Any significant difference regarding COA ?

What does your daughter plan to study ?

Any career objectives ?

Does she have a strong preference for location among NYC, Boston, & Wash DC ?

Was she offered admission to any special programs such as honors program at any of the three schools ?

Sorry I guess I should have included more info newbie poster here lol

She is coming in as Undeclared. Her interests are leaning towards environmental science, political science or communication.
So hard to decide based on that.
She’s not really sure about a career yet, needs to explore more.

No special programs.

City preference from best to worst - NYC, DC, Boston. (We live outside NYC)

Appreciate any input!

Northeastern has by far the most developed program in environmental science with 20 different majors in this field, each looking at it from a different point of view. One of those is environmental science & political science, combining 2 of your daughter’s areas of interest. With your daughter being undecided, Northeastern’s co-op program would also provide her with some real world experience to help her begin to test out her interests.

I would begin with Northeastern.

Why LC and not Rose Hill?

Actually I misspoke lol! Although she applied to and got accepted to LC she is also open to changing that the Rose Hill.

You have opinions on either or both ?

Is there debt with any of the options?

GW is strong in political science and I think pretty good in communication too, but may not be best choice if she is likely to major in something else.

GW and Fordham LC also made my daughter’s top 5 list, though she ended up elsewhere. She loved the location of LC - much more interested in being “in the buzz” than on a traditional campus. GW is similar in that sense of course (albeit a different buzz)

Also curious as to whether any of them costs significantly less than the others.

I liked Rose Hill. S20 liked LC for obvious reasons. As a parent I wasn’t crazy about the idea of leaving an 18 year-old in central NYC in basically what looked like an apartment building, not a campus. My compromise was first year at RH and then LC so he would get the college experience. He ended up elsewhere but we all liked Fordham.

Here’s my opinion on Rose Hill vs LC for your daughter:

LC is a small undergrad college of fewer than 1400 students and without much of a campus. It serves the needs of commuters and those who want or need to be close to Broadway for their studies.

One of Fordham’s advantages for environmental science is its facilities for the study of the environment which are located either at Rose Hill or which have easier access from RH than from LC:

  1. Fordham has a formal partnership with the NY Botanical Garden (located across the street from campus), the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Bronx Zoo (located down the street from campus), and the Bronx River Alliance (which flows through not the Bot Garden & the Zoo). All offer opportunities for internships.

  2. St. Rose’s Garden, an outdoor classroom and urban organic agricultural project, is on the Rose Hill campus and provides opportunities both for practicum work and for internships in partnership with the Botanical Garden’s Edible Academy.

  3. St. Rose’s Community Agriculture weekly brings food from local organic farms to Rose Hill. It is another opportunity for practicum work & valuable preprofessional experience.

  4. Fordham’s Center for Urban Ecology is located on the Rose Hill campus.

  5. Another opportunity to meet practicum requirements is the Campus Sustainability Program at Rose Hill, which partners with NYC government’s sustainability plan (PlaNYC).

  6. Fordham’s Louis Calder Biological Field Station is located in Westchester County and is much more easily accessed from Rose Hill than from LC. It offers classes on site and is an opportunity for field research in the areas of water management and conservation.

  7. In general, Fordham’s lab facilities for science courses are more extensive at Rose Hill than at LC.

need more information on what she’s looking for in a school, but I go to northeastern if you have any question about it!
