I was originally deferred EA at UM and applied ED II to Wake Forest, I was accepted at UM today and would like to know if I am able to either withdraw or change my app to Reg Decision at WF, does anyone know if you can do that with schools you applied ED to???

Can you call WF and ask them?

You were admitted to the University of Michigan on February 9th?

I wonder about the date of your acceptance too.

I did get the email today it was sent at 2:19 PM

Did you get an email, or just log on to WAccess?

Got it in an email. I wasn’t expecting it at all

call admissions office of Wake Forest tomorrow… tell them your desire to switch to RD… it should be early enough that they will change it… if not, tell them that you NEED to switch for financial reasons.

also, please post your stats on the decision thread. it would be very helpful to other deferred applicants. thanks and congrats.

^DanielTosh, just so you’re clear, Early Decision is usually binding and one who applies ED is implying that if accepted they will attend. So you cannot cite the acceptance to UMich as a reason to switch ED to RD. You will need to ask them to release you from ED because you cannot reliably commit to WF for financial reasons -l- that’s technically usually the only grounds for release. What’s most important is to communicate with them immediately. I don’t know that I would necessarily elaborate on the UMich acceptance unless asked, just FYI. Technically, you can apply EA rolling to a state school while an ED applicant elsewhere, so that’s not the issue. The issue is that you’ve in essence said you would attend WF if they accept you, and now you’re wishing to “un-commit”.

Damn it is? I applied EA at like 7 schools

ED is binding only after the school has made a decision. You are always free to request a change of status from ED to RD, just like you are always free to withdraw your ED application before a decision is made.

“For those planning to apply for financial aid or whose enrollment is contingent on merit based aid, or for those who have misunderstood the binding nature of our early decision policy, we strongly encourage you to move your application from Early Decision to Regular Decision by contacting the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by e-mail at admissions@wfu.edu or by telephone at 336.758.5201. Your admission to Wake Forest and your consideration for need-based or merit based scholarships will not be adversely affected by a withdrawal from Early Decision.”

Woody, EA is not binding so you are free to apply to multiple EA schools as long as none of them is SCEA (e.g., Yale or Stanford).

(this was last year)

I applied to Mich, Purdue, Illin, Drexel (idk why…), OSU, Cincy, and Stanford…

luckily (or unluckily) I didn’t realize I needed to take SAT 2 tests for Stanford so I was rejected. In the end, I still had Mihcigan over them and never really planned on going that much.
