Hey guys it would mean the world if you could comment below any positive thoughts! I need help! so I have a 3.1 GPA with a 1500 on my SAT. However, I live in the area and want to attend UCI during fall 2015. I am undecided major because my friend told me I have a better chance of accepted that way. I have 140+ hours of community service with a job of 30+ hours in the summer every two weeks which I am also currently working at. I have been a church youth leader for kids as well as a tutor. My personal statements were amazing and I also wrote an extra essay in the additional comments section about my 5 year dedication to a non-profit that helps orphanages in Mexico. I also was in dance and kickboxing until my senior year. Lastly, I have won an award and I took bio, chem, ap psych, forensic rop, and I have had over 4+ years in Spanish. I am also a minority (Hispanic) What are my chances?

Although your EC’s look great and your essays may be amazing, the UC’s are very GPA focused and you are way below the average. Your SAT is also below the average. UC’s banned affirmative action so ethnicity will play no part in your application.

UCI: Reach

I hope you have some good backups. Good Luck.

Thank you so much!

I think you have a chance of being accepted. Although there acceptance rate is lower than 45% you could be placed on the wait-list! I applied to many schools where my ACT score was lower than the schools average and I was accepted due to all of the extra curricular activities I participated in and the community service I accomplished. If you told them this was your dream school, proved to UCI you were a dedicated and hard working student and had great letters of recommendation you have a chance. Dont be discouraged if you dont get in right away. One competitive school I applied to, I was wait-listed, than accepted for the spring semester of 2015 and then finally I received a letter that I was accepted for the fall of 2014. Even if you dont get in right away, you can always go to a school or community college for the fall 2015 and apply as a transfer student where it is a little bit easier to be accepted because it is less competitive. You have a lot going for you and wherever you end up attending you will be successful.

Thank you so much!!! I have been constantly discouraged by others which is understandable, but your words meant the world to me thank you for the taking the time to reply to my message!!!
