Please help - D is interested in several colleges in PA. We plan on visiting Lafayette, Dickinson, Bucknell, Gettysburg, and Franklin and Marshall. We're coming from Albany, NY and it likely makes sense to start at Lafayette. Where would you recommend we travel from there? Also, how many colleges should we plan to visit in one day? As is probably obvious, we are new to this and would appreciate any advise about visiting...Thanks in advance to all those who have been there before...

If you have the time I would recommend only 1-2/day. We visited the same colleges you listed in one week (minus F&M) and we included Haverford, Villanova and Lehigh. This was our itinerary:

Day 1 - Bucknell
Day 2 - Gettysburg and Dickinson
Day 3 - Lehigh and Lafayette
Day 4 - Villanova and Haverford

itsmygop,

Agree with kaleigh3 on limiting visits to, at most, 2 per day. Since you’re coming from Albany:

1 – Lafayette and Franklin & Marshall
2 – Gettysburg and Dickinson
3 – Bucknell

Another option, which would give you a fairly leisurely drive back to Albany:

Day One – Bucknell and Dickinson
Day Two – Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall
Day Three – Lafayette

This would allow you to get on the road in the early afternoon and avoid the worst of the NYC-area traffic on I-78, I-287 and I-87 (NYS Thruway). We are parents of a Lafayette first-year who live just south of Albany and usually make the trip in 3 hours.
