PLEASE HELP PLEASE

Essentially, up until this year I have had a 4.0 unweighted GPA. I’m a junior and I took AP NSL as a Freshman, AP US as a Sophomore and I’m taking 4 APs this year (Physics, AB Calculus, Comparative Politics, and Language). I definitely underestimated how much work each of these classes required as well as the massive amount of time my extracurriculars required. As a result, I really struggled in math and I think there is a potential I got a C on the exam. I studied really hard for the exam, and thought I did well so I’m really frustrated about that fact. I also received a B in AP Physics but the rest of my grades remained As. I haven’t taken the SAT/ACT yet, but I performed very well on the PSAT (99 percentile) and my practice ACT test was at a 32 without studying. I also have a ton of extracurriculars, I’m a nationally ranked debater, part of my school’s competitive drama program, write for our school paper, and currently lead two clubs. I also was selected for a national charity teen board and interned with that charity over the summer. I also run varsity track during the spring. I’m getting a tutor for both Calculus and Physics this semester and working in school with both teachers to try and get As in both classes this semester.

I’m not looking to attend an Ivy League school, but I am looking at selective schools like Pomona, Macalester, Davidson, Middlebury, Amherst, Swarthmore and other small liberal arts colleges. Essentially, my question is whether this slip in grades the first semester of my junior year will ruin my chances at these schools.

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated, as I’m slightly freaking out right now, thanks

Lots of people get their first non-As junior year- b/c they (like you ) are suddenly in very rigorous classes. Don’t let it psych you out! Show that you can step up when you hit the hard stuff. Your grades aren’t final until June, and you have not ‘ruined’ your chances at this point. Don’t panic!

You don’t have to have perfect grades to get into top colleges. You can have a couple of Bs as long as your rigor is high. You have a lot going for you.

However, do be aware that several of the schools you are interested in (particularly Amherst and Pomona) are as hard to get into as half the Ivies.

I (and my kids) would agree with the previous posters. If your track marks are competitive, make sure you start contacting the coaches.
