I am planning to apply for this fall.
I was wondering how the UCs look at your GPA
Do they decide on your before fall 2012 gpa or on after fall 2012?
Because I just started school this spring 2012, my gpa is not really high because I got a C.
Please tell me how the ucs look at your GPA to decide whether to accept you or not.
THank you:)

You apply in Fall, and then after you complete that semester you must update your application with your grades from Fall, and what courses you plan on taking in Spring. They will decide your admission before you finish spring semester.

So after fall 2012.

so if I take classes during winter, will they use the GPA after winter or they just look at the gpa after fall 2012?

They will only use Fall.

So after you submit your UC application and finish your Fall 2012 semester, they will tell you to update your Finalized Fall 2012 semester grades and list all the classes you are going to take for winter 2013 and spring 2013 which the update deadline is by the end of January (don’t guess what your Fall 2012 grade will turn out to be or if by any chance the grades you guessed isn’t right with what you really got then you can be in serious trouble). After you submit your UC update (after the deadline) you pass winter and spring 2013. You don’t report winter and spring 2013 grades unless you failed them and you can still report if you change classes that is different from the UC update you sent (By this point you can’t update your UC update form any more, you need to submit individually to each UC campuses you submitted whether if its failed grades or change of courses for winter/spring 2013).

Hope that helps and yeah like everybody said, they count your GPA through Fall 2012 ONLY (past - Fall 2012 final grades). No exceptions even if your GPA boosted up in the coming winter and spring semester (keep this in mind if you are in the position to appeal after you get a unexpected UC decisions in late April, hopefully you get good ones)
