PLEASE HELP! Questions about transferring from CSU to CCC to UC

I'm currently a sophomore at a CSU & I was wondering if it's too late to transfer to a UC. Knowing that it's almost impossible to get accepted to a UC from a CSU, I'm thinking about dropping out of CSU & go to a CCC (junior year) for a year & apply for UC Fall 2012.

1) First of all, is it too late? Is it worth it?
2) Would I be considered a CCC student when I apply for UC? I will have completed 63 units by the end of Spring 2011.

If anyone went through the same situation, I would appreciate it if you could share your story! Please & thank you.

I just posted something just like it on this forum! haha.

First off, decide on which UC’s you want to apply to. For example UC Santa Cruz is very particular about who qualifies as a “cc” level-priority student. Their rules basically state you cannot have more than 20 units taken at a 4 year AND you cannot exceed a certain limit in units. Many other schools are not this particular and all they want is you to not exceed a certain level of units and to be currently enrolled at a community college.

If you are not planning on attending one of the schools with strict rules such as SCruz then I would say go for it (drop out and attend CC). And depending on what your intended transfer school’s rules are you might not want to take too many more UC transferable courses-- you might only be able to take 7 more units before you’re ineligible! Also, please try to enroll at the CC ASAP, they will be doing registration for fall classes soon.

What school are you aiming for?

if he has taken 63 units at csu, is he not considered a csu applicant no matter what?

First of all, thanks for replying!

I’m planning to apply to UCI, UCSD, & UCD.

Has anyone been admitted to a uc for fall 2011 as a junior transfer from a csu? If so, what were your stats and major?

I just wrote this in another thread… but check out the 5th post down. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/769356-course-action.html

You need to make sure your credits don’t surpass the credit cap for the UC you want to attend. CC students are limited to transferring 70 units but if most of your 63 units are UC transferable and then you additionally accumulate units at a CC, you need to make sure you don’t surpass 90.

Each UC has it’s own maximum unit cap:

You should be considered as a CCC transfer if you will complete one year of CCC prior to transfer.
