Here's the deal. I'm at a ccc in san mateo. Keep in mind I'm applying to Berkeley's Sociology Program.

I took 16 units last semester and recieved a 4.0

This semester I am only taking 12 units - Is this okay? Will I be punished? I will have my IGETC complete by the end of this summer and I will have 60 units by the time I graduate is the 12 unit thing a problem?

Also, what are my chances into cal's sociology program with a 4.0...do they care that I didn't take 20 units a semester or will they just see that I completed everything? This school is my dream.

Don't worry, as along as you keep your GPA up you'll be fine. The # of units you're taking plays only a minor role. Taking 12 units and getting a 4.0 is better than taking 16-18 units and getting a lower GPA.

Just take more units next semester. If you keep up your 4.0, finish all your prereqs and you're a cali resident I would say you're basically in.

It's not a problem. If you're applying to Berkeley for Fall '08 then you need to have IGETC completed by Spring '08. Likewise for 60 credits.

If you're applying for Fall '09 then you're completely and totally golden. Unless you're working, you probably don't want to take 12 units every semester unless you're taking difficult classes, but just one semester won't affect anything.

Yes. This is my first year at ccc; I am applying for Fall '09 to berkeley.

Oh, so we don't have to have IGETC done by the time we apply? It needs to be done by the time we graduate community college?

^^^^^^^^^^ Dos this mean I just need to take Sociology 100, finish IGETC, and then for the rest of the required 60 units take just random UC transferable courses?

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

No you don't need to have the IGETC done by fall, just by spring prior to transferring. My advice is try to search for nearby CCC's to see if any of the courses articulate over there, but yes, you're basically done once you complete your major prep and IGETC. Good luck.
