In order for you to put down something under the 'work experience' section of step six, does it have to be a government-affiliated job? What if I worked at my parent's restaurant, and got 'work experience' there (cashier position during the summer). I don't know if it'll work or not because I didn't really receive any money for it, but I did get the 'experience'.

put it down as work experience, regardless of getting paid or not

when it asks what you used your income for say that you had to help your parent's restaurant because they were understaffed and didn't have enough money to pay you

or something like that...use truthfulness if that's not the case because that's similar to what i put down for my situation

I wrote an essay about working for my dad's real estate management firm. I just said that because of cost-saving needs to keep the family business afloat, I needed to work their at a really reduced price wage.

This type of essay is looked upon highly by admissions because they want people to show reponsibility for helping with family expenses and such.

Thanks for your help you guys! :)

Wait,

"To what use have you or will you put your earnings?"

I didn't get any earnings, so what do I write there?

I don't think I'll include it. I mean, is work experience really that important? Will it reduce my chances?

Include it in your application--it will not hurt to put it down, and shows the reader more about your background. Just be honest and say that you were working for the family business, so you didn't get paid directly; any earnings you might have "made" went back into the business.

Thanks for your help mrniphty!
