Please help Reverse Chance Me for Engineering ( low tier ec's with decent stats) ( Thankyou)

Demographics: Indian living in Michigan for 4 years but an Indian Citizen. ( not sure if I have to apply as international or not)

Intended Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.)

School: Competitive Public High School ( top 5 in-state )

GPA : 4.07 UW/ 4.43 W ( according to High School GPA Calculator)
I don’t know how to calculate. I took 38 half-semester classes where I got 2 A-'s one in an ap class while the other one was an honors class. 12 A+ while the rest are A’s.

Course Rigor: 8 Ap’s ( Chem (5), Ap Comp sci (3) ), predicted ( AP Macro (4-5), AP Micro (4-5), Calc Bc (5), Stats (5), Mech ( 5), E and M (4-5) ). I will also be taking Clac 3, Linear algebra, Ap physics 2, and Ap Gov next year ( senior year).

SAT: 1490/ 1510 ( super score) might take one more time in August.

Rank: School does not rank but will be top 5% or 10% at the very least.

EC’s: I moved here from India 2 months after school had started and because I was new and still getting used to things I could not do any ec’s my freshmen year and hence am not able to get any leadership roles. Not sure if colleges will understand though

National Honors Society/ Physics Club/ Engineering Club/ Chemistry Club/ Machine Learning Club ( from 10 th grade.)

I did some stuff in India in 9th grade before coming here ( school starts 3 months early there, not sure if that counts though)

like Infosys Spark Catch Them Young (9th Grade) - A two-week-long program where 60 of the top students from south India are invited and introduced to digital technologies such as cloud, AI, big data, IoT, and blockchain. ( India)

Also have around 100 volunteer hours

A.I camp on a 3-week scholarship

1 month-long computer science camp in UofM

SSE camp in UofM

Michigan Math and Science Scholars program

Awards

Indian SOF Mathematics Olympiad (9th Grade) - 12 th in state ( India)

Indian SOF Science Olympiad (9th grade) - 2nd in State ( India)

AMC 9/10 ( 10th Grade)- qualified 2nd round

TSA Teams Engineering (10th Grade) - Our team came 1st in the entire state of Michigan and qualified for Nationals which got canceled due to Corona.

No competitions in 11th grade because of Corona

Essays: Average thinking of writing about how I am a mix of cultures and the challenges I faced when I moved and also about the time our build stoped working before a competition.

I am planning to apply to Georgia Tech, Michigan State, UofM, and Purdue. Since I have to pay all out of pocket with no aid so I was thinking of not spending more than 50,000 - 60,000 total every year unless it is a really good school.

I appreciate your help thankyou.

Just to take one example, at U Michigan you will qualify for in-state tuition but will have to apply as an international student.

You also may qualify for in-state tuition by demonstrating all of the following: (1) you attended an accredited Michigan high school for at least three years and thereafter (a) graduated from an accredited Michigan High School or (b) received a Michigan General Educational Development High School Equivalency Certificate (GED); (2) you attended an accredited Michigan middle or junior high school for the two years preceding high school; and (3) you are commencing your education at the University within forty months of graduating from the Michigan high school or receiving your GED. To establish eligibility by demonstrating attendance at Michigan schools, you must complete the following form truthfully and timely: Application for In-State Tuition on the Basis of Attendance. You do not need to be a legal resident of the State of Michigan or United States to qualify under Part II.

But, I think you will have to apply as an international student (but you should directly verify with them): Requirements & Deadlines | University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Here is MSU’s info on qualifying for in-state tuition: MSU RO: Regulations for Qualifying for In-State Tuition

You will likely have to apply as an international at all US schools (again verify on each website). As an international student you won’t qualify for any Federal funding, including the Direct Student Loans.

Is this $50K-60K the annual amount your parents can pay? I would start by verifying the info above that you will qualify for MSU and UMich in-state tuition, and go from there. If you get in-state tuition at those schools, they will be tough to beat. Michigan isn’t a sure thing, but you are likely to get in to MSU.

Good luck.

Hey, I looked into it and will likely qualify for instate in MSU and not in Michigan because of not having two years of middle school but will still try. Yes my parents said they would ideally like to spend 50-60K including residency unless it is a top tier university. I did message admission counselors for the schools I listed in the original post asking if I apply as International or not. Do I have less chance of being admitted as an international? Thankyou

Are you planning to apply to any other schools besides UofM, MSU, Georgia Tech, and Purdue? I would encourage you to do so.

Yeah, I am still looking though. I think Michigan State is a decent college plus I get Instate so If I don’t get in anywhere else I will probably go to Michigan State.

I think Ga Tech and Michigan are reaches. You may look at adding Purdue and Pitt as well as, if you qualify, in-state Michigan Tech.
