I'm dumb. I just got in-school suspension for 7 days because of possessing a small quantity of marijuana in my room. I go to a boarding school and the just happened to do a room search the very day I was going to get rid of it. I did not use any of it.

I was accepted to Duke ED in December, and now my GC has to report this to Duke. Is there any hope for me? Please help.

Call them and explain what you’ve learned. Do not try to ignore it.

Possessing drugs is an offense that you should be grateful didn’t get you carted of to prison/juvenile hall.
Explain it, grovel if you have to, but don’t pretend like it never happened and ignore the situation like Erin’s Dad said.

And don’t ever say again the following:
“a small quantity”: The amount doesn’t matter.
“I was going to get rid of it”: They will think you are lying.
“I did not use any of it”: They will think you had yet to use it.
And, if you were actually simply in possession of it (maybe you found it, maybe you were asked to hold it, whatever) and you have never, do not, and would never use it, you were still in possession of it, which got you in trouble.

follow Erinsdad’s advice and address this immediately. In addition, meet with your counselor and ask them if they will advocate for you. They obviously have to report it, but if you can make a sincere plea to this counselor to help you remedy this mistake then you have a better chance of keeping your acceptance. You need to apologize for your actions and own up to what you’ve done. You can’t go in there with the attitude that it’s not such a big deal, or with any kind of excuses. The counselor really needs to be on your side, so do all you can to gain their support. Good luck…

Not to change the subject, but did someone rat you out and they can search rooms? Ick

“a small quantity” does matter: It’s the difference between a user and a dealer. That said, you need to talk to your guidance counselor and get them to support you - and do as Erin’s Dad said - contact the school.

“I was going to get rid of it.”
“I did not use any of it.”

I’m sorry to say that as soon as I read this I thought you were a liar. Why else would you have marijuana? You buy it, don’t use it, get rid of it?

Don’t try to cover it up.

(I’m sorry it’s so harsh but that’s what it sounds like.)

^Not harsh, my thoughts exactly. The OPs words make apparent the fact that they haven’t owned up to their actions and are trying to play the victim.
