Please Help! uc davis vs sdsu

Hey everyone! so I’m a recent high school graduate, gonna go into undergrad in the fall, trouble is i have no idea where. I didn’t get into my dream school(ucsd), i got into my last resort school, and i got wait listed at both uc davis and san diego state. so i sent in my intent to enroll to my last resort school cause i had no choice, and i kept praying id get into sdsu cause it was my second choice. i had completely forgotten about davis until they emailed me to say i made it off the waitlist and into the school! i immediately cancelled my admission to the last place school and accepted davis.

so then i start getting excited about davis. i emailed sdsu to see what they could tell me about their wait list, but they said they wouldn’t even release decisions till possibly july! so id given up hope, and davis was looking better and better. i signed up for orientation and housing, they’re giving me grant money, and it seemed like a done deal. BUT THEN sdsu informed me i was in!

so now I’m stuck…

as i research and look at it all on paper, davis seems better, but something about me still wants sdsu. I love san diego, and its 2 hours away from home compared to the 6 hours that davis is. like i said, davis is giving me grants this year, and their financial aid is much better, but overall sdsu does have lower tuition.

so now i need your help. my plans are to major in biology, on the path to pre-med. is it easier to go to davis undergrad and then transfer to maybe ucla/cal/ucsd grad school, or go sdsu and transfer to ucsd for grad school? I’ve heard its hard to go from a cal state to a uc, but is it any easier uc to uc? and which one has better biology anyway? they both seem good to me.

thank you, much appreciated!!

For Med school, you want a school where you can get a high GPA to be competitive. Also, why attend either school if you plan to transfer? Going to CCC for 2 years snd getting your GE’s out of the way can help save money towards your goal to attend Medical school. I have one son that attends UCD and another at SDSU (neither Pre-Med) good fits for both , but also very different environments. You will get a great education wherever you go. Go where you can succeed academically/socially and financially.

What is your net cost at Davis and SDSU? If they are even, I’d lean to Davis but if you’d be much happier at SDSU (and not because of a lot of high school friends attending) then that is a fine choice too.

All else being equal, Davis is the significantly better school.

But of course all things aren’t equal–SD, for instance, is a way more rad place to spend four years…
