Please help! UMich vs UW- Madison.

Hehe! There’s the Wolverine pride that I so love! No need to get angry 'novi. Like I said, EChoudhu has a Wisconsin bias, which is perfectly acceptable.

EChoudhu, if you prefer Wisconsin/Madison to Michigan/Ann Arbor, going there is perfectly reasonable. Wisconsin is a great university and Madison is a great college town. Your insistance that Madison is a better college town than Ann Arbor or that Wisconsin athletics are greater than Michigan athletics or that Wisconsin has more school spirit than Michigan or that Michigan employs TAs more than Wisconsin are all not grounded in reality. It only makes it seem like you are looking for an excuse to choose Wisconsin. That is not necessary. Ann Arbor and Madison are both great college towns. Michigan and Wisconsin both have awesome athletic programs. Michigan and Wisconsin both have great school pride. Wisconsin is a founding member of the AAU. It is an awesome university with a long history of academic excellence. Liking the vibe on campus better than the one at Michigan is all the validation you need.

I’m not talking about the early 2000’s. I’m clearly talking about the last FEW years. And as you can see, Wisconsin has been the BIG10 champions the last FEW years. They will likely have another promising season as will Michigan. And the coach left due to other problems. He didn’t leave because of the team; 3 straight Big10 championships and 3 Rose bowl appearances. As for Basketball, maybe they did get lucky just like many teams do in the NCAA tournament. How comes there’s a Cinderella team every year? Also, Michigan basketball isn’t better than Wisconsin basketball. They all had smiliar seasons minus the NCAA tournament. The only team in the Big10 that can say they are better than the rest is Ohio State. They killed every team down the stretch.

OP made the correct choice. Congrats and enjoy it. It will all be over too soon.

Thanks barron! have been criticized by many at HS but i believe I made the right decision! Both are awesome universities.

“have been criticized by many at HS but i believe I made the right decision!”

That explains the thread.

Both are great schools for undergraduate. Just pick the one you like more. Medical school would be another round of game. I do agree UM’s medical school is better. I have lived in Ann Arbor for 14 years. It is a nice college town with a lot of cultural activities. It is a very safe and friendly city. The campus is not as nice as many other schools though except for a few areas.

How do you feel the campus is when compared to UW Madison?

^^^Does it matter anymore EChoudhu? You are going to Madison. Good luck and good bye…

lol Just curious to hear his opinion

As someone who faced a similar dilemma a few weeks ago (had to choose between Michigan, Berkeley and Madison), I can understand that it is far from an easy choice and you will change your mind more than once before paying that deposit fee.

I don’t encourage just relying on rankings but the difference in reputation between Wisconsin and Michigan is far greater than you may think : [Top universities by reputation 2013 - Times Higher Education](World Reputation Rankings 2013 | Times Higher Education (THE))
I live in Kuwait and even here people regard Michigan highly.

Don’t get me wrong, Wisconsin is a great school and the area is definitely more scenic but I wouldn’t base my decision on which uni is located in the better “sports town” unless I’m intending on being part of a college sports team.

A friend of mine is currently studying in Wisconsin - Madison but has been trying to transfer to Michigan…and that too for nuclear engineering which Wisconsin is ranked higher for… Goes to show how strong Michigan’s reputation.

Actually Hidevik, Michigan and MIT ranked are #1 and #2 in Nuclear Engineering, while Wisconsin is #3. So technically, Michigan is ranked higher, but it is not significant.

I understand all that. Although, Times does rank UMich over Wisco significantly, many other rankings rank Umich higher, but by not much. ARWU actually had UW madison in front. In addition, I want to go to medical school, not get into Investment Banking. Im pretty optimistic reputation doesn’t mean SO much to medical schools. I’ve been searching up some JHU medical school students, and the colleges the kids come from are very diverse. From Duke to UIC, from Harvard to Rutgers, from University of Maryland to UMass. Also, I’m sure if I wanted to attend Umich med school attending UMich for undergrad would be the best option. However, I want to attend UW Seattle or UT for medical school.

Also, I’m pretty big when it comes to partying. UW Madison is without a doubt the better party school:

[Party Schools That Pay: 2012 Payscale List](<a href=“Party Schools That Pay: 2012 Payscale List | HuffPost College”>Party Schools That Pay: 2012 Payscale List | HuffPost College)

Also, I realized Umich is more cutthroat when it comes to premed. I rather be happy at UW madison, with the social life and partying then at UMich.

Finally, [Unigo: Top 10 Colleges with the Happiest Students](<a href=“Top 10 Colleges with the Happiest Students | HuffPost College”>Top 10 Colleges with the Happiest Students | HuffPost College)

^^^^ JUST GO TO MADISON! IT HAS BECOME ANNOYING TO ME THAT YOU ARE MAKING REDUNDANT COMMENTS IN ORDER TO JUSTIFY YOUR DECISION TO ATTEND WISCONSIN. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO CONVINCE ANY OF THE MICHIGAN FAITHFUL THAT WISKY IS THE BETTER SCHOOL OVERALL. IF IT IS WHAT YOU SEEK IN A COLLEGE, GOOD FOR YOU! IT IS A FINE UNIVERSITY!

Sorry I had to scream to get my point across.

When the oos students at UMich see the tuition bill, they cannot be a happy student.
It is hard to convince others when comparing 2 schools (or anything else). There are just too many angles and parameters to look at them.

There’s no reason you should be getting angry. Seems like you really don’t like life at UMich or as mentioned, your bill is really killing you. I was simply responding to a statement made, and I understand it might have been redundant. However, I started this thread. If my responses are annoying you feel free to ignore this thread. I guess there’s just certain things college doesn’t teach it’s student.

There’s a reason why Wisconsin doesn’t have a forum in “CC’s Top Universities”…;)

“I’m not talking about the early 2000’s. I’m clearly talking about the last FEW years. And as you can see, Wisconsin has been the BIG10 champions the last FEW years. They will likely have another promising season as will Michigan. And the coach left due to other problems. The only team in the Big10 that can say they are better than the rest is Ohio State. They killed every team down the stretch.”

Don’t kid yourself. Wisconsin has been Big Ten champions the last two years because of sanctions and their ability to “rent-a-qb” in Russell Wilson. Y’all finished in 3rd place in your division. The only reason you made the Big Ten Championship game was because OSU and PSU were ineligible.

And you’re foolish to say that Michigan and Wisconsin were equal in basketball this past year. Wisconsin last in the first round of the tournament, Michigan made the NCAA finals. You seriously can’t say they Michigan wasn’t better than Wisconsin? If we’re talking regular season here, then Indiana(not OSU) was the best team since they, you know, won the conference. If we’re talking about the whole season, then Michigan was the best team based on post and regular season success.

I don’t even know why you made this thread. You seemed pretty set on going to Wisconsin, which is fine. But it feels like the whole reason you made this thread was to get Michigan people to admit that Wisconsin is better in certain areas, which won’t happen.

“I don’t even know why you made this thread. You seemed pretty set on going to Wisconsin, which is fine.”

The OP comes from the East Coast, and in his part of the country, it would seem that Michigan was considered the “better” choice. That is not surprising really, since in some parts of the Northeast, particularly in New York City and the Tri-state area, Michigan is arguably one of the 5 most prestigious non-East Coast universities in the country, and second only to Stanford. Wisconsin does not have quite the same reputation.

I think he started this thread to get some validation for his decision…and he got it. From an academic point of view, the majority here have said that Wisconsin is excellent and more than worthy. Had he not attempted to prove that Madison is a better town than Ann Arbor, or that Wisconsin has more school spirit, better social life, happier and kinder students, better sports etc…than Michigan, and merely stated that he personally preferred the vibe he got from Wisconsin, nobody would have argued with him since Wisconsin is a great university in its own right. I am not sure why he needs to prove to himself, and to others, that Wisconsin is superior to any university. The choice of university is a personal one. That alone should suffice.

It’s all a part of the day in the life of a cheesehead.

Hehe! I like cheeseheads. They tend to be among the classier fans.
