Please Help?! Univ. of Maryland

Hey guys! Ok, so UMD @ College Park is one of, if not my top school so I'm really curious to see what you guys think, or may know, my chances of acceptance are.

I've only taken the ACT + Writing once so far and my composite score was 26 (my math brought it down), but I'm planning on taking it again next month. My GPA fluctuates between 3.4 and 3.5, and I'm doing PSEO this year taking Intro to Business, Ancient and Medieval World History, Computer Concepts and Applications, First Year Experience, and Intercultural Communications first semester at the college and then my two English classes: College Writing and Rhetoric at the high school.

I haven't participated in any school clubs or been on any varsity teams, but I played volleyball through community ed for two years and I've played softball and volleyball through associations since I was 3. I was also an active member in my church's youth group for years and I've had a job since the day I turned 16, which takes up most of my time after school.

Based on just these details and the fact that I'd be OOS (from Minnesota), do you think I stand a decent chance of acceptance? I'm not entirely sure of my major yet, but my top two choices for UMD are Government and Politics, and Criminal Justice.

Thanks!

Oh, but I played the saxophone for two years and been in choir for 2 of four high school years (didn’t take it freshman year and had had enough of the teacher after two years so I didn’t sign up for it senior year).

My cousin goes there. He was admitted with a 3.6 GPA and a 1850 (something around that number) SAT score. I don’t really think he had many ECs besides varsity soccer and another sport or two but I could be wrong. We’re out of state as well. I think you have a decent shot but don’t quote me on anything!! Good luck :)

Thank you!

Here’s the admitted profile for this past year…

I would work on getting the ACT up. I applied 3 years ago and was spring semestered with higher stats and as a Maryland resident.

From what you’re saying, you have a good shot right now. For sure though take the ACT again in the fall, and start working on it now! Seriously! That’s what I will be doing, a month of practice really pays off, especially if you got your composite to around a 30, you’re in for sure!

As MattPJ said. if you get 30, you’re in.

Awesome! Thanks guys! Anyone else?
