Hi everyone...For ILR how possible is it to score out of math during the entrance math exam (I'm a GT)? I hate math so I'm not sure wat to do. Did u score out of it (of course w/ taking the required stats course afterwards). Did u have to take algebra or pre-calc? If u could reply soon that would be really good cuz I have to figure something out. I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I wanna take math where I am right now and risk getting below a B (which I highly doubt, but u never know) or take a math at Cornell with really smart kids lol. Thanks!!!

Hey, I was just wondering about this a couple days back…I found some sample questions and a general guideline on ILR site…http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/admissions/Apply/upload/MathAssement.pdf
It seems to be mostly algebra and some pre calc…Ian also said that the test might be eliminated by the time we get there…not sure tho lol.
It’s kinda embarrassing, but I took calc and don’t remember much of anything…haha…so I thought it would be beneficial to start reviewing on my own...

Damnitttt lol. Do u know when we have to take this test? It's not during the school year right? I'm hoping u say Summer lol

Ya…not too sure, but I think it has to be during orientation…thus summer! from what Ian said it didn’t seem like it was too dreadful but I’m still a bit worried lol…

do all transfers have to take placements tests? for other colleges too? human ecology?

CALS also has a required math placement exam and its given the first day of orientation. perhaps the same for ILR?

I think there are certain tests for each college…but pretty sure there’s one for languages! Which probably means I have to review for that too…or not? ahhh…

We have to take it while there? Hmmm at least that gives me some time to study during the Summer (which will SUCK lol)

did you take ap math? i didnt have to take the math placement exam because i had a 5 on my ap calc test

if you receive a 4 on either AB or BC calc your exempt from the exam i believe

I read the GT instructions and it doesn’t say anything about the AP calc test…but it does say that if u haven’t taken pre calc or cal in high school then u are required to take college algebra…so maybe all transfers have to take the test…not sure!

i was a GT and i didnt have to take it because of AP. if you didnt take precalc or calc thats probably why you wouldnt have passed to placement and would have to take math anyways

plus the math placement test for ILR is just Math B stuff..which is math sequesntial 3 i believe...
it's not going be hard....it's just like part of the Precal stufff...so relax...

Which I took junior year, did pretty badly in, and didn't like (large time period between course n test). I am worried. I'm kind of assuming I'll end up taking algebra at Cornell in the end...

Ya, AP calc is not one of my fondest memories…but with a little review the test might be ok…either way…taking that math class shouldn’t be too bad!

Speaking of reviewing...wat r u gonna use to review? lol i really dont think i have my old notes or anything...

I have two rather old books…one is called contemporary pre calc and the other is an old text book about college algebra…lol found them in the garage and I also have (or should have) some notes from along time ago…but I’ll definitely buy some better reviews don’t know what tho ;) i really don't want to review....lol I thought AP calc was the end!

AP Calc IS the end if you scored a 4 or above. (at least for CALS)

i am just hoping getting a 4 on my Cal AB exam this year, does that mean i dont need math anymore if i go there??
still i hope to continue with math course though

If you get a 4 that will suffice…but I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to take more math!
