please help, weird and complicated college situation

Hey everyone, im currently a 2nd year university student and my college situation is a little complicated.

after this upcoming summer i would have no choice but to transfer to a community college back home because i live really far from my university. basically my main question is… if i attend a community college and attempt to transfer to a better school will it hurt my chances that ive been to a university before? rather than if i had just gone to a community college after high school.

i do not have a choice but to leave my current university for a combination of financial and other reasons. so if i try and aim high is it just as likely as a normal CC transfer or would i have more trouble because ive already attended a university for 2 years? I also realize that I would be staying in school for a combined total of more than 4 years but i do not mind that.

Somewhat depends on the 4-year school – obviously some are more selective than others. But in general, no, a transfer from a 4-year school to a CC won’t hurt your chances transferring back to a 4-year school.

A few things to consider…
– Will the CC have high enough level classes.for a student who has completed two years of college?
–Many four year colleges will not grant a diploma unless a student attends for 2 years or earns a certain number of credits from the college. You need to look at schools you may want to transfer to and check the requirements.
–It is very hard to get merit aid as a transfer student.

With two or more years of college work, your college record (including courses taken and grades earned) will be the most important for transfer admission purposes.

Be careful to check whether your transfer target schools have limitations on the number of credits you may have. In some cases, having too many credits may limit your ability to transfer; in other cases, it may just mean that you will not get as many credits after transfer.

Do you need any more classes before transferring? You might be better off just taking a year off before transferring to your final college.

If you need to transfer to the CC in order to recover from a couple of semesters of bad grades, or to pick up the pre-reqs for an entirely new major, then it makes sense to spend time there. Otherwise you should take time off and apply directly to a new 4-year institution.

Yes, my grades did take a little hit. I dropped to a 3.0 and I do not know if 1 year of CC will be enough to bring it up to a good enough GPA for better schools like UCLA, USC, etc.

if money is no concern do you think itll be possibly better to just not transfer my grades from my current university and start fresh?

When you apply for transfer, you have to send the transcripts from every school you attended. Since part of the reason you’re transferring is financial, it wouldn’t make sense to not report your first two years even if you could. I don’t think attending a cc after 2 years of college will help you. Why spend the money on 200-level classes when they won’t put you closer to a degree?
