I am currently a senior in high school and have already applied to most schools I am interested in. I have around a 3.2 GPA, due to a very poor performance my freshman year. I had a 1.8 my freshman year because I had many family issues happening at the time. But then my sophomore year I got a 3.8 GPA. I have maintained around there since, and currenty have a 4.0 (If it even matters at this point) I am taking the most rigorous college courses through my high school and have very strong extracurriculars. I didn’t do very well on my SAT, 1570, CR: 530 M: 480 W: 560. But I am retaking it and feel like I will do much better. I am wondering what my chances of getting into college are, specifically, Indiana University or Michigan State University? Any recommendations for anywhere else I should apply? Thanks for your help!
Hi! I recently got into Indiana and these are my stats:
I’m from a public high school in NJ where 21 kids from my school applied to IU
3.8 weighted GPA (I had around here all four years).
I took the SAT four times and my scores were 1570, 1560, 1560, and a 1590.
My SAT super score is 1650.
ACT is a 24.
I take AP Art History, AP Macro/Micro-these are my only AP classes ever and I am taking them my senior year
I have been in honors classes and lower level classes
I had a C in chemistry in my junior year, which I thought would look really bad but I guess not!
My extracurriculars are:
Lacrosse and Volleyball (freshman year only)
Art Club (junior year only)
Cashier Job (like a month during junior year)
Babysitting for the past few years
Latin National Honor Society (sophomore through senior year)
You have shown a huge improvement from your freshman year, so I think that will be good. I’m not sure about the MSU app, but on the Indiana app you can write about what happened your freshman year so they can understand what happened.
Indiana and MSU are both really easy to get into, so I don’t think it will be that difficult for you, especially if they know the circumstances from your freshman year. Good luck!!
@whatisstudying That is good to hear! I have filled out both applications already and explained my situation so I hope they will understand! Thank you for your help
