So I'm now a junior and my freshman and sophomore combined GPA is around a 3.33. Well this year, I have retained a 4.1 so far and plan to keep around a 4.0 for both of these semesters. I hope to get anywhere from a 26-28 on my act in the spring. I am a part of marching band, jazz band, and symphony band. I have 2 honors classes and will probably have a few more before i graduate. I am going to be the first person in my family to go to college unless you count uncles. I really want to get into MSU. I plan on having an interview and taking advantage of applying early. will my GPA rise by next year? will the recent incline of academic trend make a difference? Please help, I am freaking out about whether or not i'll be accepted. What are my chances? will I get in?

IF (and that’s a big if) you keep your grades up at a 3.8+ for the rest of junior year AND you get an ACT in that range, then you have a pretty good shot. You’ll have a GPA just around 3.5 and a good ACT. If your grades fall or you score pretty low on your ACT then your chances obviously go down. That is a very strong upward trend though and that is very good. Yes, your GPA will rise if you keep up those grades.

Apply early, absolutely. You don’t need the interview and I’m not even sure MSU gives them.

Work hard and check back in with us next spring after you get your real ACT scores. It would be much easier to give you your real chances :).

If it makes you feel any better, My d was accepted two weeks ago with a 3.38 GPA, no honors or AP, and a 25 ACT. She was OOS. Apply early. The window is open wider early in the process, and as times goes on, the bar gets raised.

Thanks. Yes, MSU does have interviews, they came to my school a few weeks ago and gave my friends on site admission. I’m just scared for next year when it’s my time…:/

Anyone else have any idea of my chances?

you need a high gpa (3.6) and act score more than 26 or 27

my cousin got in with a 16 on the ACT and like a 3.0 AT BEST (I actually don’t know his gpa, it could be as low as like 2.5 though) and was admitted through on site admission at his school. You should be fine, really
