please help with chances

I am rising senior and im starting to fill out my coalition and common app applications for college. I have been curious about what my chances are for the schools i am looking to apply for. Both my parents were born in colombia and i would be a first generation college student. I am a florida resident and want to major in international business.
Unweighted GPA- 3.4
Weighted GPA-4.003
ACT- 32
APs taken- World Hst, US Hist, Spanish Lang, Eng Lang, Psych//,DURING SENIOR YEAR–> Econ/Gov, Eng Lit, Spanish Lit, Enviro
EC: I have run varsity cross country and varsity track for my school at the competitive level all four years, and have assisted my team in winning numerous championships
-I have worked at Dominos pizza for almost 2 years, training to be a level one assistant manager
-Over 100 hours of community service
Schools on my list: University of Florida, Florida State, UCF, Florida Atlantic, NYU, Syracuse, and Indiana Bloomington

University of Florida - yes
Florida State - Yes
UCF - Yes
Florida Atlantic - Yes
NYU - No
Syracuse - Possible
Indiana Bloomington - Possible

Here’s why

1- The GPA is way too low for NYU unfortunately.

2- Being in-state, I don’t think Florida schools should be an issue at all for you

3- Indiana and Syracuse are a possibility, so by playing the race card, and writing strong essays, you should have a better chance.

Good luck!

I suggest that you post on the Florida system board, to get advice from people who know that system well.

“Being in-state, I don’t think Florida schools should be an issue at all for you” is a massive over-simplification. Just as a California student with your stats could not be confident about getting into UC Berkeley, I do not think you can necessarily be confident about getting into UF - it is highly competitive. Certainly you can be confident about being able to get a high-quality education within the Florida public system - but it’s a complicated system with its own quirks that most non-Floridians do not understand unless they’ve done a lot of research. (And in fact many in-state are confused and end up making choices that aren’t to their advantage.) So, definitely get people who understand the FL schools well to advise you on that front.

Also, paying the many day-to-day costs associated with living in this country as a POC, and then bringing that experience to a college community in which minority experiences are woefully underrepresented, and getting a small admissions advantage for your ability to make that contribution, does not in my mind constitute “playing the race card” per se - it simply means having your potential contribution valued, as it should be.

Are you a fast enough runner to be competitive for D3 teams?

Do you need financial aid? IU is not going to give need-based aid to an out-of-state student. If your family can pay the OOS cost then it’s definitely a good program to consider.

Syracuse has decent financial aid and is a good target, but the b-school is more competitive than the university as a whole, so that needs to be factored in.

Are you looking at U of Miami? (They will credit Bright Futures money, and it seems like a good match stats-wise as well as goals-wise https://www.bus.miami.edu/academic-programs/undergraduate-business-education/index.html )

Brandeis could be a good school to look at, too. http://www.brandeis.edu/business/index.html Their whole b-school is internationally focused, and your stats are right on target… and being just outside Boston could be a great experience.
