Hi,

I am a sophomore going into junior year. I have already chosen my classes for next year, but I am worried I may have messed up by choosing Academic Decathlon. The amount of summer work given so far from AcDec has been horrendous, and I'm pretty behind. It is like taking 3 different AP classes at once at our school. I would be willing to stick that out if I knew it would make a SIGNIFICANT impact on college admissions (I plan on applying to MIT, Berkeley, Cornell, Princeton, Stanford, and CalTech). I initially signed up for AcDec because I thought it would be cool, but it really is getting to be tough, and it's only summer. Do you CCers think that doing AcDec and participating will actually help with me getting into high level universities in any significant way. The only other extracurriculars I have are Science olympiad team, I tutor chemistry and physics, trying to get an internship at a physics lab, volunteering at a hospital, and photography. My other classes for next year are: AP Chem, AP Physics I, AP Art History, AP english III, AP Calc BC (might end up being Pre-AP PreCalc), AP US History, and Pre-AP French III. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am getting stressed.
