Hello, so I am a CC student in California . I am a psych major who plans on attending medical school after I obtain my bachelors. I am applying in the fall to schools and will have around a 3.5 transfer gpa with all lower coursework done. Parents will pay majority so pulling out some loans myself isn’t a big deal
Applying to: UCLA,UCSB,TEXAS,WASHINGTON,ILLINOIS,OHIO ST,FLORIDA ST
Stay in state to maximize credits and minimize costs. UC Or CalSt options.
Okay but I thought that ucsc ucr and those types of universities are somewhat frowned upon and there resources are limited ? Like what if I do not get into UCLA or Ucsb ?
Honestly with 3.5 GPA from a cc you don’t want to be accepted to the kinds of UCLA (or even UCSB). You will not survive there even if you are admitted. To maintain a GPA of 3.80+ in Pre-med UCLA (which is needed for future med schools admission), is just short of a miracle!
The only reason my gpa is that low is because I had some serious family problems which reflected in my grades a semester and caused me to miss a semester of school as well. Besides that slip up my gpa was a 3.8 and this semester will be a 3.6. I know I am more than capable if I put my effort in
And that is while taking 20 units this semester to try and play catch up @uclaparent9
Do your parents really want to pay $50K per year for some of those out of state choices? You can’t borrow much (probably $7500 per year).
Recent research suggests students do better in school and after if they go where they are going to be at the top of the class. I would suggest a CSU or less competitive out of state college over UCLA. Go where you can exceed expectations. Also, get used to using proper grammar before you arrive on campus. Learn to use there, they’re and their appropriately and study other common grammar challenges. Whether in a writing class or science class, teachers impressions of you are highly affected by your grammar and the care you give to communication.
