Hi! I am planning on beginning a 4 year university this fall. However this university does not have many of the things I was looking for in a college. I’m still planning on attending and giving this college a chance because my parents really really wanted me to give it a chance but I am almost positive I will end up transferring!
- I am going to work as hard as I can to get a 4.0 gpa first and second semester but what else do colleges want to see from transfer students? Do clubs help?
- What do you need to get a scholarship as a usc transfer student?
3.will usc look back at hs gpa and test scores if you apply to transfer for your sophomore year? Because i won’t have 30 credits by the time I send in the application but I will about a month or two later.
Thank you for helping!
Since you want to transfer as a sophomore, go to the USC website and fulfill as many GE courses that you can. There may be an articulation agreement to check which of your college classes are transferable to USC classes. Get in touch with a USC counselor. Merit award/scholarships are much harder for transfers to get than high school applicants. You might get grants based on family income. Clubs and activities are not very important and what is very important are grades (preferably as close to a 4.0 as possible) and your essay statement. I believe since you don’t have 60 units, they will want to see your high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores. 1 year transfers are harder to get in that 2 year transfers. @CADREAMIN may have more to add.
Thank you!!! How much impact will high school gpa and test scores have on transfer admission as a sophomore (if I was able to receive a college gpa of 3.8-4.0)
For 2 year transfers, high school gpa and test scores should have no impact. For 1 year transfers, they may have some impact since there is limited data for them, but I am not sure of this. Even with a 3.8 to 4.0 GPA, you may still get rejected. The more competitive the major, the lower the chance of getting in. Strive to do your best and get as close to a 4.0 as possible.
Yes, joining clubs related to your major can help in the application process. I joined the accounting club in my school which helped me when writing the essays for USC. USC is very holistic so don’t just focus on grades alone.
ECA and clubs are good, but the emphasis is not high like high school applicants. A club may show interest in the field, i.e., accounting, but for transfers the focus is more on attaining a high GPA, at least a 3.7+ for transfers.
