Please help. (Your response could help me become a Trojan)

I am an international and have been admitted to Marshall. I would like to know certain things about the school. I know that this has been asked many times before but I want to know what the current students, Class of '13 ers think NOW.
I would appreciate if you guys could answer the following

How is marshall compared to other b school in respect of reputation?

How does it help in securing internships and jobs?

Is Marshall well respected within campus?

What are the facilities available to Marshall Students( the website does little to help here)

Where can I find more pictures and possibly virtual tours of the school

How rigorous is the curriculum and how competitive are the students?

Anything else about Marshall that you would like an international bloke to know.

I love the USC spirit and would love to join. I have got admitted at some other schools as well(dont want to post their names here) and waitlisted at one. Your answers can help me decide.

Where and what field are you trying to work in? International students have a harder time securing jobs because they need working visa sponsorships.

well, I haven’t decided yet. I would like to know as much as I can about the school. I will decide my line of work depending on the economic climate

Can somebody answer my questions PLEASE??

I’m not a current student, but seeing as how no one answered yet, I’ll tell you what I think, based off of what I’ve seen and heard from current students.

Marshall is definitely a prestigious business school, no doubt about that.

USC in general is well known for its network, so I would think that Marshall, being one of the “better” schools on campus, probably has a vast network of its own. Probably shouldn’t worry about getting jobs or interns.

I guess, but you won’t be worshipped or anything, as a lot of other students are business majors.

I wikipedia’ed Marshall School of Business: [Marshall School of Business - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](USC Marshall School of Business - Wikipedia)
The campus section has a good description of the various facilities.

I wouldn’t know, sorry.

USC is not cutthroat, from what I’ve gathered, but there is certainly competition at Marshall. I’ve heard too many mixed messages about the curriculum, but I would guess that the curve is pretty high for each class.

From what I gather from your questions, I’m going to assume you haven’t visited USC yet. The atmosphere is very, very friendly, and the school is pumped with spirit. All of the staff members I met, administration and professors, were very professional and helpful. The students I stayed with during my visit basically summed it all up saying that USC works hard but plays hard.

5…if you are on facebook, there is a group USC 2013 I believe, where many pictures of USC are posted. I know there’s a link somewhere in these threads but I can’t find it, maybe someone here has a link.

Very attractive campus, park like grounds, lots of greenery, wide pedestrian walkways, lots of fountains, and impressive buildings. A great majority of students have bikes.

I will not be visiting USC before August(that is if I choose it. Seems most likely. I will pay my deposit and wait for the waitlist of the other school. and then I will make a final choice). Because I cant get an on campus idea of USC beforehand, your input is vital.

@ long - are you going to attend USC, if so, what school

@sequoia - I have seen the facebook page. what I want is more pics of marshall. I googled it and found the same images(2-3) again and again

Whooo I just joined the USC Class of 2013 facebook group! We should all friend each other on Facebook. =D

I’m Jeff Ito if you guys wanna add me - just make sure you message me and tell me who you are on CC or else I won’t accept it. ^^

USC has a youtube page with some videos you might like:

Good luck!

How many classes can we take outside marshall? And is USC in proper LA. because in the admit letter, it says ‘beyond the tall trees of our beautiful campus, is the city of Los Angeles’

USC is close to downtown. LA is big, so you’ll want a car most likely. And you can take as many as you want outside of Marshall.

I am majoring in physics, so College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, but I am interested in business as well. I don’t know what you mean by proper LA, but the area around USC is often considered wary. However, USC’s general safety net extends a bit beyond its borders though, and it only takes some common sense to stay out of trouble around the neighborhood.

By U.S. News rankings the Marshall School of Business is a top ten undergraduate business school. Some of their programs are ranked very high nationally. Accounting is 5th, Entrepreneurship is 4th, Real Estate 7th and International Business 5th in the nation.

There is strength in global business. Marshall had global ties before it became popular in other colleges. In my opinion Marshall has much emphasis on the Pacific Rim and international business. Marshall is the only business school to offer a one-year international MBA Program (IBEAR) accredited by the International Association for Management Education. Another plus are first year international programs (GLP/LINC).
Marshall has a Global Executive MBA Program in Shanghai.

You asked about the facility. According to a booklet about Marshall it said the school offers technologically enhanced classrooms, web based teaching tools, experiential learning center and the Crocker Business Library/ computer lab. I think you would find the classrooms modern.

Two highly competitive joint programs are offered through Marshall. They are the Business/Cinematic Arts Joint Program and the Business/International Relations Joint Program.

There are honors programs in Marshall as well. It offers a Progressive Accounting Degree which allows gifted students to complete a Master’s and Bachelor’s in four years. This is of particular interest to those students who are merit scholars and have 32 AP credits. Also offered as honors are the LINC program for freshmen and the Global Leadership Program.

This is just a partial list of alumni who have undergraduate degrees from the Marshall School

hey, thanks georgia girl. that was quite informative. Looks like I’m leaning towards marshall. Love the trojan spirit and can’t wait to cheer for the trojans. I will be most probably attending marshall unless I probably get that waitlist school. Then I may have to think again.

P.S - are you a USC student, you seem to know a lot. Thanks again
