Please Help!!!

Just this morning i got my online notification saying that i will not be able to attend penn state at university park (i did check summer session when I applied) but would have to start at a branch. Penn State U-Park is the only place i could ever find myself going to and the idea of a branch school just doesn't please me at all. Would it be a wise idea to call Penn State Admissions and ask if I could change my major and say i am 100 percent willing to start at summer session? What do you think I should say to them to give myself a better chance at them allowing this?

what major did you apply for? It might be possible to get UP if you change to a less competitive major, such as Division of Undergraduate Studies (undecided major). Just call up admissions and ask.

There have been people that have called, changed to DUS (undecided) and gotten in. If you applied to a specific competitive program, or in engineering/business, it may be more score inclined and potentially difficult. I would call or email admissions@psu.edu - they reply pretty fast. May I ask if your image changed to a lion before the decision or was it always the UP image?

Pamom59- I applied to Astrophysics and Astronomy so im thinking that it was a pretty hard major to get into

Sarora- My picture stayed at UP the whole time so I thought I would get in but I guess that I was wrong

Thank you both for replying

Does anybody think if it would be better to call or email them

I know exactly how you feel! I wasn’t accepted to University Park either and I’m pretty upset about it. I’m really not too enthusiastic about going to a branch campus. I hadn’t marked summer session on my application and I now wish I would have. I emailed the admissions office asking if I could still do summer session, and I’m still waiting for an answer. The website says emails should usually be responded to within 3 days so hopefully I hear back soon. If not, then I will probably call because I would do anything right now to be able to start at UP!

Ya it is so frustrating… especially since we had to wait this long to get a response only for us to get denied. I think that you will get in since you asked to do summer session because we were problably so close to getting in since we had to wait so long but good luck and let me know what happens, i let you know how it goes for me

Keep in mind that the campus — including people who work there – will be preoccupied with the Paterno funeral until Friday. Be patient.

tzleb37 my cousin got a branch campus last year, and her dad called up and talked to admissions and got her into summer session at UP. So it’s worth a shot!

tzleb, that is very wrong that you have waited all this time just to be rejected from UP. Although you still got into a branch, i’m sorry that it took this long

However, even if you still can’t get into UP through summer session or DUS, i’d still take the opportunity to perhaps do the 2+2 program.

Just to let you guys know the admissions officer did not accept me… she said that they had to many applicants this year and there were many people like me and they just had to make a tough decision and deny me. She was very nice though and seemed very sad that she couldn’t let me in. Now the question is altoona or behrend?

tzleb37, Astrophysics and Astronomy would require your transfer to University Park after the 1st year instead of after 2 years. Point this out to admissions and maybe they could work you in. D1 did her undergrad in astro at University Park and is now working on her PhD at UC Berkeley. Be sure you have a strong math and physics background before you take astro 291 & 292, these are serious weed out courses. Historically half the class drops or fails astro 291. D2 also took astro 291 last year and out of 35 students that started there were 3 A’s, 3 or 4 B’s, the rest got C’s, D’s or F’s (16 students took advantage of the late drop deadline ).

tzleb37 — Behrend, no question. It is an awesome school in its own right. Just make sure to pack snow boots and earmuffs :)

same thing happened to me…
denied yesterday 3.59, 1820
got accepted to a branch campus, but i don’t think ill go
thinking of going to uconn for a semester and then transfering…

does anyone know how hard it is to transfer into psu?

swim144

Sorry to hear. If it helps my older daughter is at UConn and loves it. Still waiting to hear from PSU regarding D2.

Are you in state ?

Tzleb - Looks like for UP you would need 2 years of college experience to transfer. I’ve also attached a link for you to look into. Not sure if it’s different for certain majors.

Basic Transfer requirements

High school and college transcripts are required to complete a transfer application. SAT or ACT scores are not required if you have completed more than one semester of full-time college coursework after your high school graduation.
Transferring to Penn State University Park
Transfer students to Penn State University Park must have taken two years of full-time college coursework before the time of transfer.
Each academic college has its own criteria for transfer admission. Criteria for transfer admission may include specific course requirements and a minimum cumulative grade point average.

Thanks for the info everyone and ill have to check that out SCbob because i do want to get into UP as soon as possible but not if that means having a really hard time and failing courses

Jamez

Thank you, that actually is good to hear because uconn was my second choice after psu. And I live in pa

Good luck to your d!
