Hi! Just wanted to know if a EFC of 04879 is good? I will be going to community college and full time cost is like a flat 2k. THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

As far as federal aid goes, you will not be eligible for Pell Grants - the only federal aid you will get is $5,500 in Stafford loans, with a percentage of that probably being subsidized.

Thanks if that is true it should cover me for a while. Thank you again.

You are not eligible for the full pell of $5550. With an EFC of 04879, you will be awarded $700 in pell (350 per semester).

What state are you from? Do they offer state aid?

You will be eligible for $5500 (3500 subsidized) in direct loans. If your state does not offer state aid, you will have to take out loans to attend community college.

You should check that the CC you are planning to attend participates in the Direct loan program. The three in my city do not.

Whoops - they must have boosted the Pell caps since I looked.

The Pell Cap is $5550. However, Op will not receive $5550 just because s/he is Pell eligible.

Pell takes into consideration the EFC and the cost of attendance. OP’s EFC is closer to the max EFC for Pell eligibility than it is to 0 (which is full Pell eligibility)

OP just barely qualifies for Pell Grant. I think the maximum EFC you can have is 4995

Yep, the Pell cap is not equal to the maximum Pell Grant, and never has been. It used to be in the $4,600 EFC range, but that was a few years ago when I was still an undergrad.

From the chart, the smallest possible Pell Grant is $602, for those with an EFC lower than $4,995. $4,996 and above get zero grant dollars.
