Please Help!

Hello,

Im a third year community college student ( Santa Monica College) and Im applying fall 2014.
my GPA is: 2.6 and im involved in two clubs and running for Associated Students Vice president.
I didn't do so well during the first year because i felt prideful about going to community college, since my high school experience was much more rigorous. For this reason, I skipped classes and failed to acknowledge that I was enrolled in a college with lots of transfer resources. Unfortunately, my immaturity caught up to me and I ended up attaining a 1.5 gpa. This was a reality check for me and I've fished myself out of academic probation ever since, I've had to retake about 8 courses, which have accumulated lots of points in my transcript. I now have a 2.7gpa and ready to apply this upcoming fall. Though I fear that because of my past and excess credits(64 units as of now) I'll be shot down by colleges I've been looking into such as Oberlin college, NYU, Occidental, and Barnard. I'm an English major and have researched these schools heavily; ive found they suit the academic style/ rigor i'd like to have.

Also, because I'm applying as an english major with a low GPA, and schools are highly competitive, I fear taking a political science course this spring may jeopardize my admission/ profile. I've recently been interested in knowing about the political science major.

anyone willing to provide an answer?

Have you looked into Academic Renewal?? That might help a lot.

I’m not sure about the other 3 but definitely NYU no good with that GPA and your major.

You don’t like any of the CSU’s?

Because if you go out of state you’ll pay for it a lot in tuition.

If money is no issue look into St. John’s in New York it’s pretty good and they’ll accept you with that GPA for your major, my cousin was pretty much in the same bout as you he had a 2.65 GPA going to College of the Canyons, he transferred to St. John’s in his 3rd year and just graduated with a 3.85 GPA there last May.

They have tons of financial aid there too for students that aren’t rich lol

It’s worth a look.

Also for the in-state schools (CSU) if you get an AA-T degree you’re guaranteed admission at one campus and given priority admission at all other campuses if you get above a 2.0 GPA so look into that too!
