In October 2013 I took the ACT Plus Writing and scored a 29 composite and a 10 on the essay. I wanted to increase my composite score, but was satisfied with my writing score, so this September I took the ACT without writing. I received a composite score of 32, which I am thrilled about.

Unfortunately, the UC Application online requires that I submit a writing score for my ACT. But because my 10 on the writing portion is not attached to my 32, what am I supposed to do!?!??!

I plan to submit both scores when I apply to UCSB so they can see that I actually did take the writing portion. I’m just unsure how to present this information for the online portion.

Please help me.

The UC’s take your highest ACT score from 1 sitting but has to include the writing. Why did you take the ACT again without the writing, when it states clearly on the application information it is required. You may have to go with the 29 Composite score but I would contact admissions to find out for sure. The writing portion is really not considered that important so they say may tell you to send in both and they may accept your original writing score??

From CSU/UC a-g requirement matrix:

The ACT Plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test is required for UC applicants.
UC uses the highest composite score from a single sitting of the ACT Plus Writing or total score from the SAT Reasoning Test.
