I'm taking the ACT in December first time, and I'm feeling quite nervous. I've been taking the practice tests on the real ACT prep book and I've been getting high scores in reading and science (34-36) but pretty low scores in English and Math. I've been getting around 29-30 for English and Math. I'm nervous because I've always thought that I was strong in English (700 on SAT) but i'm getting such dismal scores. However, I've always known that I was bad at math. I'm aiming for a 34 or higher December, and so I need a 35+ reading, 35+ science, a 33-34 english and a 30-31 math to achieve my goal. Anyone know how I can get my english and math scores up? I'm getting really freaked out because this is my last chance (i'm a senior)

29-30 are pretty decent scores. I scored around that level in my first practice test and what I realized was that I didn't read the questions carefully and made stupid mistakes. At the 29/30+ level, the only thing you can do is be more careful, since you are only missing a few questions.

when you are taking them, just keep your cool. if you worry about how they are your hardest sections, you will just be wasting time and second guessing yourself even more. for me, reading was my worst section. in april, i got a 27 on it. but while studying for the september test, i really worked on just staying calm throughout the entire section and not second guessing myself. i wound up getting a 34. so tonight, just go over the basic punctuation, subject/verb, and parallel structure rules. think of english as just editing your friend's english essay. for math, i suggest you program rules into your calculator (which i presume is graphing). i dont think that this is considered cheating (since they allow you to use a TI-83+ and the proctors never clear your calculator). one of my friends could never remember the exponents<-->logs rule. so she put that rule into her calculator, and it helped her a lot.

just some insider tips. if you want anymore, email me at sugarsweet728@hotmail.com or just send me a message through here. i took this test 3 times, so i pretty much know all of the tips and tricks
