I would like someone to look over my credentials and tell me if there is any chance at all that I can get into Harvard.

So… I am an international student from China and currently studying in Montreal, Canada. I took the flight to Canada barely knowing 50 random English words and no knowledge of French AT ALL. It’s been 3 years that I am attending the best English college in Montreal.

SAT 1: 2100 (I know this is NOT enough and I am aiming for 2200 in June)
SAT 2: Physics 800 Math2:800 French: 770
I am in Top 5% of my class of 400.
Straight A’s in my transcript and was in the honor roll the first semester and a a bunch of other academic awards in high school (i.e. highest average and honor roll and achievement award)

I play piano in McGill conservatory and intramural basketball in high school.
I write for school newspaper, got my submission published in a book, and my essay was highly commended internationally in the Commonwealth essay competition.

I volunteer in hospitals, YMCA, UNICEF, organizer of the school talentshow. Work in school AV department and in a supermarket. Volunteer for the school as school ambassadors to the public, I provide first aid service to the school population. I will spend my summer 2007 doing volunteer work in Guatemala.

Hi Sristi, yes, I like to pursue in the finance field and I am currently enrolled in a commerce program in my college. I am also doing very well in my Calculus class. Thanks for replying me!

well, the fact you ask for your chance at harvard on a penn forum isn't gonna get you much warm welcome here. esp. when you ask it in the 2011 subforum; sorry but ED accepted penn kids don't particularly care about harvard. i'm writing this cuz i like helping internationals out and cuz i'm bored from watching AI..

with that said, nice that you did well in the essay competition and have gained mastery of eng. in such a short time. your chances are ok at penn, good if you bring up your sat score. i'm assuming you are a canadian citizen/permanent resident, cuz internationals competition for financial aid is quite a different game. that's all, gl?

thanks alot. Yeah, I realized I made a mistake, mentioning Harvard on Upenn forum. I am a new member and I don't know exactly how to edit the post or delete it.

i dont think you can edit/ it once somebody posts after you...

you're chances are pretty good so far. you should try to raise your SAT scores to at least a 2200+ (maybe even 2250+) i would rarely recommend that, especially because a 2100 is not as bad as you think, but international admissions are very very competitive (especially for wharton). you have good extracurricular activites, SAT II scores, and academic record. if you have great essays and higher SAT scores, and you should be competitive in the international pool.

Thanks, abhim89, for your insight. Just one more question: I don't particularly have any activity showing my commitment to business education. (except for a business project done in sophomore year) All I have are general stuff like volunteering in hospital, etc. Will this lack of business activity affect my chance of getting accepted to Wharton? Thank you.

I don't really think you need to have an outstanding amount of business EC's. Mainly, they just want to see that you are a dedicated person with leadership skills, not just a bookworm.
