Do you have to pay your deposit BEFORE creating an ONYEN?
I got this letter from them that it is important to create my unc account to finalize my eligibility for financial aid. HOWEVER, I called an Information technician and told me that the letter was a mistake and that I can't create an ONYEN because I did not pay for my deposit.
What should I do? Is anyone having the same situation?

An ONYEN is only for students, not potential students, so you have to have paid your deposit to create one. The letter probably means that once you send in your deposit and create an ONYEN, the financial aid office will know you're coming and send you some additional forms. The amount of your aid won't change but there are more steps the financial aid office takes after you've accepted an admissions offer.

i think you have to pay the deposit. I would call the FINANCIAL aid office about that letter not the tech support. they can look up your file and help.

i got the exact same letter and called the info tech, and she told me the same thing! so... if you go to applicantcentral.unc.edu, it will tell you what forms you are missing. For me it was the verification form that they needed, along with tax returns and w-2s. But since i couldn't create an ONYEN, I looked up what the verification form was on UNC's general website, and found the link to the 2008-2009 verification forms. So, I think that's probably what you are missing too, maybe?

^Could you post the link where I could download the forms?

You can create an ONYEN on My.UNC as long as you have your PID. The ONYEN is also for accepted students to check Financial Aid. If you received a letter from Student Aid, they tell you how to open your ONYEN. Just follow the directions. We have not sent in any deposit and have an ONYEN account. From there you can check your FA status and missing documents.

If anyone has been marked for verification by FAFSA, download the verification form and send it in as soon as possible.

When I tried to create one, it wouldn't let me.

me too!!! someone please tell me, so I can send my stuff in asap.....my FA comes out next week...

I do not have a PID and never received one. Applicantcentral did not tell me I had missing documents. Had I not called yesterday, I would have been waiting on Monday to find out if my son was receiving aid.

go here and put in PID or SSN and birthdate.
there is a certain way to put in the birthdate, if one doesn't work do the other way....good luck
