Personal:
The day before my AP biology exam, i found out that my mother had terminal breast cancer. This was in may of 2004 the year right before my junior year. as you can see, i had to stop many of my ec's because i had to stay home to take care of my mother.

UCB: Slight Reach
UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match

I think all of them are matches for you (unless you're apply to like, usc film or something extremely selective). also, i'm assuming you're instate. i had similar scores to yours and i got into ucla and got rejected from berkeley, but in state im sure you'll be fine. GOOD LUCK!

UCSD: Match

up the SAT score and you should be a match for UCB/UCLA. everything else looks good for being a match for UCB/UCLA, and make sure you convey your special circumstance somewhere on the app... maybe an essay, or on the additional info.

Does any one know what ucla does in terms of the sat and act scores? do they convert the act score and use that if its higher than the sat score?

I do not understand the new SAT scores. I feel... outdated. =P

Yes

haha agentmichi. the new SAT basically puts SAT II writing into SAT I. thus its out of 2400 points.

although the formula is somewhat faulty, i use the following as a general guideline:

since UCLA's single sitting composite SAT average for accepted students as 1353 and the average SAT II writing was 680, i added them up to get 2033 (or 2030).

however, because we are unsure how the scale is for the new SAT, etc., i've been telling most students who have the other credentials (GPA, EC's, etc) to be a match to get into UCLA to score somewhere around 2000-2100 to be a statistical match.

Ah, so the grading is a bit like the PSAT then. I remember when one of my friends got her PSAT results back and was like, "I got a perfect 1600!!!!!". Turned out that she added the writing to the verbal/math...

average only means 50/50 and anyone should always try to get higher. cant hurt ur changes but maybe ur brain will.

and i thought PSATs were out of 80 points each? haha i remember my PSATs.. eww.

bump bump bump can someone tell me any match schools?

well id say really concentrate on your essays now ad make them really good coz a bad essay can really screw ppl

UCSD is a good one. UCB, UCLA, and USC are slight reaches. perhaps look at UCSB, UCI, or UCD for some other matches/safe matches.

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks!
