Please help?

I am an Asian male aspiring to become an ER doctor after medical school (I am prepared for the long hours and the demands of an on-call lifestyle).

Unweighted GPA: 2.83
Weighted GPA: 3.44

I've taken eleven honors courses and three AP courses (AP Microeconomics - 5, AP Macroeconomics - 4, AP US History - 4) so far from freshman to junior year, and I'm taking three honors courses and three AP courses (AP Biology, AP Statistics, and AP Government & Politics) senior year.

I'm also studying to take the AP Psychology, AP Calculus AB, and AP Chemistry exams without the in-school courses (the teachers in my high school for those subjects are less than stellar).

SAT I: 690 Reading, 770 Math, 680 Writing (I'm studying to get it up to at least 2200 when I test again in October)
SAT II: 740 Math II, 710 US History

I've volunteered for 200+ hours at a senior medical daycare center (10 hours per day for two consecutive weeks really helped). I also plan on volunteering at a nearby hospital during this schoolyear.

Besides English I am fluent in my native language of Cantonese Chinese as well as conversational Mandarin Chinese and Spanish (six years of in-school education), although I never learned to write in Chinese. I am also planning on studying Japanese and Russian.

I am aware that besides my severe lack of extracurricular activities, my GPA is very weak, but I am definitely improving and I believe my 3.81 GPA during junior year reflects this.

I plan on applying to the University of Maryland - College Park, Boston University, and Pennsylvania State University - University Park, all for pre-medical studies. Also, being absurdly hopeful, I want to apply to New York University (although I've been told this would be a waste) and Wake Forest University. Tuition is not a problem. What are my chances?

I can relate to your situation as I am in a similar one but you are in a better spot than I. Well let’s see here…

Academics: Your GPA is less than stellar for “Top” schools; however, they should he “OK” as I have seen worse and your high SAT score is very Solid for the schools you are looking at. Big concern is not “many” APs!

EC’s: Well I don’t see any so yeah…though your volunteer work is exceptional and will help you.

Well here are my thoughts:

NYU: Low-Mid Reach
University of Maryland: Low Reach
Boston University: Mid Maych
Penn State: High Match

Good luck, hope I helped! Could use your opinion too =]
