PLEASE high school senior needs to be chanced (asian female)

Hello!

I know that I am applying to alot of "reach" schools. I do have one or two back ups in my state.

Here are my Stats:

High school senior (have not yet taken all the IB tests)

Full IB candidate
IB Math SL score: 7/7
IB Music Theory score: 4/7

SAT scores (will retake in october)
CR: 630
M:780
W:750

SAT II is to be taken in november.
I will be taking physics (probably high 600s), chinese (high 600-mid 700), and Math II (700s)

GPA: 3.883
Class Rank (as of now, i dont know if it will change much): 30 out of about 540 kids.
I go to a pretty competitive high school. But I'm still top 10%

All honors classes in 9th grade (junior high) and all IB classes in highschool. these were the toughest courses my highschool offered. Im also ahead in math and I am taking IB Math HL this year (senior year)

EC
Band all throughout highschool
Wind Ensemble (we have won several state/national competitions)
Piano 10 years (continuing)
DECA inter-Nationals competitor two years in a row
Volunteering: Providence Medical Center 3 hours a week year round
Volunteering: Bellevue Art Museum 2 hours a week for 15-20 weeks
President of Tree Planting Committee (IHS Earth Corps)
National Honor Society two years and coming third year
AMC 10 national level
Ive done about 100+ hours of volunteer work total (including the weekly)

Hobbies:
I love art and music.
I like to design and make clothes (wrote about it in the essay)
I am also in an indie rock band. I play rhythm guitar and vocals and harmonica. I also write the songs.

Personality:
I'm really outgoing. I am pretty outspoken but I have been told but am just as eager to hear what others have to say. I'm really friendly, positive, and motivated. (Actually not lying haha) The point is, I'm not quiet nor anti-social.

The schools that I am applying to (as of now)
University of Chicago EA (I REALLY want to go here)
Cornell ED?
University of Washington (back up)
Columbia
NYU
John Hopkins
MIT
Wellesley
Pomona

I honestly haven't really looked into many California schools. I was thinking maybe stanford?
Also, If you have any colleges that you think might be good for me, please do tell!

Thank you! :)

looks like you’re in at nyu, dont have enough knowledge about ib or the other schools

ok thank you. just wondering. do you think i should go for NYU stern? from what ive heard IB is tougher than AP. at least at my school it is ranked that way. AP classes are considered easier than IB

yea you have a good shot at stern, and if thats how your school works then you have a better chance at the other schools also

okcool. btw. random question but how do I edit my original post? i can’t find the edit button for it anywhere…

You can’t edit posts after a certain amount of time.

Just wondering, what high school do you go to? I go to Interlake. We have both IB and AP here and IB is only harder in that you have way more internal assessments. (Tons of presentations and essays - EE anyone?)

You have good shots at all of the schools on your list. The obvious reaches will obviously be tough for you - they are for everyone.

SAT II’s should be in the high 700’s…especially for Chinese and Physics. Chinese 800 isn’t even 100 percentile I think. More like 79. Likewise with Physics.

I’m from Washington too. What school are you from?

well, I’m going to go out on the limb here and say Stern is a bit of a reach (I say Stern’s a reach because it’s harder to get into than Ross at UMich, and your EC’s have little to do with business) if your Subject test scores are going to wind up in the 600’s. That really kills, but otherwise your EC’s are looking real decent and should have your chance at all the schools you named.

oh, i go to Inglemoor High School. And my school offers AP classes too but IB is just considered most rigorous. I took marketing for two years, worked in the student store, and was an international deca competitor (mentioned above) those two years. So, this is why i imagined business may be a considerable career path. I am also good at math, and this is why i am considering accounting as a major.
Yeah, I know that i am not the best at testing. I am also not that great in physics… are the subject tests really that important (honest question)?
Also, I only have one more chance to take the SAT reasoning. If I do not improve my CR score, how bad is a 630?

p.s. thank you everyone

What do you mean AMC10 national level? Did you make AIME? If so, then just put that.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think that a lot of the schools you are applying to are out of your league (Stanford, MIT, Pomona, Wellsley, etc).

I just don’t see anything amazing in your ECs or fantastic numbers.

Still, very strong applicant in general and obviously you’ll have a lot of choices.

Yes i did make AIME. no problem, p bush. i kindof had a feeling. i did think i had a chance at pomona and wellesley though. just from what ive seen from friends getting in

what is your Oct SAT score?

oh um physics was 620 i only used it for MIT because they needed a science test.
i got 730 for chinese
and 780 for math2

and my new sat scores are
critical reading 700
writing 700
math 800

Congratulations on your SAT improvements :)

In at NYU and Washington. Hopkins, Chicago, Wellesley and Pomona are slight reaches/matches; ED helps. Good chances at Cornell and Columbia; the harmonica stands out.

Chance me also? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/802020-texas-has-bison-but-vermont-has-ski-slopes-where-shall-i-end-up.html

This is scary. Bellevue? :P

Lol, just stopping in to say hi from a former Newport kid (moved a couple months ago to Texas). Good luck!

University of Chicago EA-will be tough but i’d say mid-reach
Cornell ED-hipefully you applied already for ED but if you did i’d say low reach
University of Washington (back up)-if it’s a back up im sure you’re in
Columbia-mid-high reach
NYU- in at the CAS, stern is prob more of a reach
John Hopkins-low-mid reach

if you were a minority i think you’re chances would be increased but since you’re asian (which i believe is "over represented) you’ll def be going up against many qualified asians–Your course is rigorous which is good your SAT’s could be higher, try the ACTS

Chance me back!!!
MIT
Wellesley
Pomona
