You can still do research and have fodder for discussions at interview weekends. Also, if you haven't done it before, get some exposure to research before you commit your career to doing so.

what? im not commiting my career to research. lol im committing it to engineering. i wand to be a PE when all is said and done. i dont know where to go for research now. my professors cant help me much. i duess i could ask others that arent really related to engineering at all...

Sorry, I just assumed everyone here was here for biomedical science. What?!? the world doesn't revolve around me?

lol, nah i just wanna be an engineer and eventually work for (and take over) my dads engineering company this is so stressful and depressing not knowing if i can get in.

im thinking about taking non-credit engineering courses next spring at like PSU or Lehigh or something. do you know if when i get in (i hope i get in lol) they will count the non-credit courses toward my provisional undergrad courses i need prior to starting their grad program? or at least, if i do good, will the non-credit grads help my chances of getting in?

Are you asking 'if I take unrelated undergrad classes at a nearby college, will they transfer for graduate credit elsewhere?' If so, then no, they will not count as graduate credits. If you are asking if they will count as part of your undergrad in terms of gpa, then yes they will. Either way, they will look good to an admissions committee as a sign of initiative.

I reread your earlier post. Isn't it standard in engineering to work in industry before returning for a graduate degree? I could have sworn that that was how it was done for engineers. Have you considered that option? It sounds like you may have an easy in with your father's firm.

Most people I know in my PhD program have come straight from undergrad. If you're going for a terminal MS or an MBA then it's probably more customary to work in industry for a while first.

but how can i get an engineering job if i have no engineering degree? i have a BA in physics, thats all. my dads "firm" is simply him...no office...no other co-workers...no nothing. he just decided to branch off on his own and hes been having a really tough time lately with the economy. he doesnt even have enough work for himself let alone me.

so as for an update...got my BA, cum GPA is 3.2, GRE is 1250 (790 quantitative), and i posted a new thread asking about schools again ha ha. check it out if you dont mind...
