Okay so this is going to be a scatterbrained crazy kid post, but I'm having a mini breakdown here. I got a 2 on my APUSH and Calc AB exam, but a 4 on my Bio test. I posted a thread to get people's input on how that would affect my chances at certain schools. Everyone, and I mean everyone, shouted grade inflation. Someone told me I should go to a CC. That was it. I'm crying right now... Can 2 AP tests really impact me that much?!?! Can I still have a shot at Duke?

GPA: 4.0
rank: 5
ACT: 32
SAT: 1920
SAT II:
math I- 670
bio m- 710

doesn't any of that change anything?!?! please tell me.....

hey kid... its more than grades

What do you mean? Like I have good ECS and all that. I think I'm a good candidate for alot of good schools but thanks to my freakin dumb choice to post my AP scores in a thread I'm flippin a ****!

oli, calm down buddy. IMO, when people say "go to a CC" it mostly means that they perceive you as an overachieving student that freaks out about little things and has a panic attack over the small stuff. That's all. I promise, they are not being serious.

I think you have a good shot at Duke. And I would have told this to anybody under any circumstances. Look man, you're the number 5 student in your entire school. Your ACT is pretty good for Duke and your SAT IIs are alright.

Try raising your SAT IIs, maybe give the ACT and SAT another shot, and you should be alright. In the midst of the 2s, don't forget the 4. Many people would give an arm and a leg for a 4.

Somethings to consider:
ECs (what are they: they could play a big part in your "quest" for Duke)
Have you taken other AP Tests? If so, what are those scores.

I think you have a decent shot at Duke. And like Hopeful CEO said, it is more than grades. Don't let anyone tell you that getting a 2 on 2 AP tests is going to send you to a CC. It is just not true. Keep up the good work.

And remember, we on CC are not experts. In many instances, we are all just a bunch of talking heads that think we know something about admissions and chances. And the fact is: we don't!! Take CC posts with a grain of salt.

Wow, that was a long post. Anyway, stay calm and good luck!

Thanks! the CC thing just freaked me out. I know most people say it as a joke, but this kid went into some 3 paragraph deal about how her friend was brilliant but couldn't handle the top schools and is so much better at a cc. I was like WHOOOAAA not me!#@$%^&

Yes, I plan on taking a chill pill for all that are curious...

Chill...

I think that you should expect people to claim that there's grade inflation, because you got a 2 on AP US but a 109% in the class. Clearly you don't know that much about US history, so there's reason to suspect that your teacher was just a super-easy grader.

Why would you need to go to a community college? I think they were just joking. There probably is grade inflation at your school, but there's grade inflation at a lot of high schools. Of course bad AP scores change things--do you expect them to look good?

I don't see why you're so stressed out. You can't change the past. The only way you'll know whether you'll get into Duke or not is to apply and see.

When someone goes into an explanation of LITERALLY! why CC's are good for me, I freak out. I know the scores aren't helping me but I'll be damned if they take me out of the running.

Don't worry, it's okay. just take deep breaths, imagine pleasant thoughts. Stop freaking out. End of story.

I'm trying here... hahaha thanks for the replies, it helps :]

dood. you dont even hve to report your lowest scores. so just pretend they dont exist. you're fine.

the problem with that is that they wonder why you didn't take the ap test.

Colleges are going to see your AP scores whether you put them on the app or not. You guys know that right.......

I don't care if they see my freakin 2, my school puts them on my transcript.... it's been a conspiracy from the start :p.... As long as I'm not at the busted up technical school down the road I'm okay. hahaha wow I need to chill out so bad.

oli, coming from a guy that has his moments of freaked-out confusion: calm down a little (a lot actually. My heart rate is going to be as fast as yours here in a minute). This time of your life is never ever going to come around again. Enjoy it. Don't let a 2 ruin it for you.

I don't mean to get philosophical on you or anything like that, but it is true that what angers you controls you. I was reading your other thread and you really seemed angry. Don't let a number control you. It is just a number. It is not going to send you to a CC and it is not the end of the world. Take a big deep breath. Enjoy the ride!!

ivyleaguewannabe--it depends on how your school does transcripts. My school doesn't list AP scores on the transcript, and so colleges wouldn't have known my scores if I hadn't listed them. Some schools require that you send ap score reports (i think) when you apply.

P.S. this thread is going on way too long. I'm done with this.

dchow08: my bad. BTW, do you know how to tell whether or not your school puts AP scores on your transcript?

I'm really, really, really trying here! And I appreciate the response. So far tonight everyone has just pointed out that I'm probably a dumb kid who goes to an easy school.... so yeah. I'm calm..ish now.

Per the request of dchow08, I'm gonna call it quits on this stupid "reassure me" thread too.

ivyleaguewannabe--Yes. You ask for your transcript and look at it. Or you ask a counselor. That simple.

Story before I log out and read more Anna Karenina (SUCH a good book):

My friend's uncles applied to Harvard (or was it Stanford), but they both got rejection letters. But they must have been really arrogant or something, because they thought that there was absolutely no way they could have gotten rejected. So they actually went to the college and talked to the admissions people, and it turned out that they were right! They were supposed to have been admitted, but there was a mixup! And so they got in.

cool story...and enjoy anna karenina. I should be working on Canterbury Tales, but you know, this CC thing can become pretty addicting!!

if it makes you feel any better i cancelled my ap us history score as soon as i got out of the test. (picked b for all the MC and drew on my essays)

i contributed to this thread the OP is talking about.... and i have to agree some of the things said afterwards were a little much.

like i said it might not be grade inflation, your class might not just be up to ap standards. you excelled in the class but it wasn't really ap.

you definitely shouldn't start looking at community colleges though lol... that was a little much. not knocking community colleges at all.

besides, you have above average scores in all your other departments (your 1920 is above average..... maybe not above CC average but it is above average)

you are fine. best of luck =)
