PLEASE... In DESPERATE need of HELP!

Hi,

I have recently been accepted (EA and ID) to two of my top choice schools, Yale and Rice. Up until this point, I have a 3.96 unweighted GPA (all A’s and 2 B’s). Now, however, it looks as if I may get several B’s and a C. I will not say that senioritis has not been a factor at all, except the C is completely due to stupid mistakes. For example forgot to put the test form on a test, and resulted in a 0/50. Will a C COMPLETELY jeopardize my admission??? If I am able to raise the C and recieve all B’s/A’s, will -that- jeopardize my admissions? Up until the point, I have only gotten 2 B’s in high school.

Should I call the schools? I know that this is my own fault, but I really need your advise on what I should do. Thanks!

first of all, congrats on your acceptance to both Yale and Rice.

i don't think this mayhap will 'jeopardize' your acceptance, but a phone call/email would be nice to clear up any misunderstandings

ricemanowl,

Senioritis is known to happen to everyone, and the most C's occur last semester of senior year. However, I don't think you need to worry. You just need to maintain a good GPA until the end, and seeing as yours is 3.96, that shouldn't be too hard, especially with just one C.

Make sure your GPA is up to par, do well in you other classes, and you'll be fine. Good luck;)

Have you decided about Yale or Rice yet?

so you think a C and B's will be ok despite the fact that I'd only gotten 2 B's before???

I'm REALLY freaking out here... :(

One, two, three....ten....okay take a deep breath!!! Ask you teacher in C class if there is anything you can do.( And in the B classes as well) Admit mistakes, and say you want to do well, and is there extra credit, etc. Sometimes just asking will show a teacher you are serious and grades that are borderline might get a wee nudge.

Second, If you end up with say, 1 C, 2 -3 Bs, and the rest A's you will do fine and the colleges won't rescind admission. It would be could to bump a B up to an A as well if possible, so that see will look like a fluke.

Remember, colleges have seen a whole lot worse for last quarter for seniors, and a little slipping is normal. THey just don't want all Cs and Ds. They want students to continue working hard even after acceptence, so they warn you. But it would take a much worse report than what you are sharing with us.

RELAX ; )

Thanks for all your responses... any other thoughts???

BUMP--any thoughts at all???

Clearly, the thoughtful reassurance you've gotten here hasn't been enough. Ask Rice and Yale your questions. Go straight to the source.

You still have time to bring up your grades. It is not the end of the year yet. I suggest a study regiment, a very stringent one over spring break, and break away from all of the senior activities. Since you have not kept your grades up, you need to pound salt. I have one home in the same boat as you are. He is working with a tutor and has no social life because he has not done his job (school work ) this year and his acceptance could be in jeopardy if he does not get his grades up. He did what he wanted first term and these are the results which are unsatisfactory and unacceptable so, no senior trip, no fun weekends. Third quarter reports will be coming out and hopefully he has moved upwardly. But we cannot take any chances that he will lose his acceptances.

i wouldnt worry at all. About .4% of entering classes and top schools take away acceptences due to poor grades. If you get B's and C's you might get a strong letter saying you should shape up to prepare yourself for college but they won't rescind admissions. If a D and straight C's started to show up then they'd probably start asking questions. If I were you I would just relax and have a good second semester.
