Thanks for the heads-up. Apparently the online function allows you to review missed questions, do college searches, etc. But as said above, it doesn’t provide a way to bypass the GC.

I’m the guy who posted about receiving last year’s scores in the mail. Thinking back, that was probably the way the school chose to distribute the results.

Memphis Guy…Congrats to your son!!! :)

Here’s a post about how to go from NMSF to NMF…

How to go from NMSF to NMF

Thanks M2CK. I have already read a little bit, but it will be a while before I can get my son to care enough. You remeber how it is at 17, next year seems like a lifetime away. :-)

Good news is he already has a qualifying SAT score so it is just doing the paperwork and getting things submitted.

Btw, have followed quite a few of your posts on the Bama page, great job!! You should start drawing a salary from the Admissions Office.

We just received son’s scores in mail from his school- we are amazed because he received 239! Last year as a soph he had 196. I tried the access code in the system but it didn’t seem to work, but not sure what this will tell me. He’s a very strong student with leadership and varsity sports. He will take SAT in Jan. Will this score help him with selective schools like Yale or Princeton? He’s our first child so this is all new to us.

^^^ The PSAT score per se won’t be a factor on college applications, but being a person who’s capable of near-perfect scores on standardized tests surely will!

* Will this score help him with selective schools like Yale or Princeton? He’s our first child so this is all new to us. *

No, colleges don’t use PSAT scores and the scores aren’t reported to them.

and, even being a NMF won’t help much because those schools are loaded with NMFs.

However, they do purchase lists that have students who’ve scored - say - about 210 - so that they know who to send mail to. They won’t know the individual scores of these students, just that they’ve scored higher than a certain number. I’m not sure, but I don’t think the selection lists are as exact as “student who score over 235” or something like that. I was told that NMCorp just sells lists that have those who are scoring at or above certain %tiles, which for 98%tile (which is what they would want) would be students scoring around 210+.

But, the good news is that your son does well on tests. He should take the SAT soon as well as the ACT.

Congrats and best of luck to your son. And although ivies may be his/your focus, be sure to explore match and safety schools as well because many high stats kids get rejected and sometimes cost is an issue (and ivies don’t give merit scholarships).

Oh, yes…I remember! I had to get my son off his duff. LOL I just had to forge ahead and schedule some campus tours and say…We’re going!!! LOL However, once he had been on a tour or two of some interesting schools, I didn’t have much trouble after that. I think once kids realize that college is so much better and different from high school, their interest gets piqued.

S got his today, along with a booklet.
Almost perfect!!!

Congrats Kelowna and S!!! Always nice to get good news, takes a lot off of your mind not having to wonder any more…

Kelowna! congrats to your son!

I realize it will be fall until the cut off scores are announced. But, as the data comes in, will we be able to get a feel for wether the cut offs will go up or down?

PSAT scores arrived in my area today.

do you think a score of 219 (NY) will qualify as nmsf?
