Get your list down to about 3-5 schools, you weem really unsure of the places you listed (16 schools). I know you don't want to write all those essays, and you don't want to spend all that money on apps.

You should still have at least 6 schools to have 2 matches, safeties, and reaches.

Why waste over 300 bucks on schools applications as well as time when many of them are similar? I don't see a point to applying to "at least 6".

A2Wolves6, the number of colleges you feel comfortable applying to all depends on the person, and what you're looking for in a school. It's good to narrow down your list (I think 16 is more than a bit excessive, paulchem. Are you just concerned about admission?), but in many cases, 3, or even 5, isn't enough. Either you're stuck applying to schools that are too similar, for fear of being shot down from reaches, or your choices are limited by your financial aid packages when the final decisions roll in, so that you can't really compare where you'd want to wind up, and are stuck without much choice. Applying to a small number of schools is fine if you're staying in state, or aren't overly concerned about how to pay for college, but for most people, it's just not a viable option considering how competitive the admissions process has become. I think most people would rather spend more money applying to college to find a school that can offer more coverage for the big expenses later on, than save a $40 application fee and not apply to a school that might have given them a close to free ride had they applied.

Waitlisted at Rochester but accepted to Wesleyan...? Unlikely.

To the OP: How's your class rank? If your class rank is high (top 5-10%) then you have a better shot at your reaches - Wesleyan and Cornell.

I know someone that was accepted to Union with lower gpa, but higher sat scores; but is a white male. He said that he did not receive a dime. GPA was over 3.5 weighted and sats were around 1270. High school he attended is known as a competitive public hs. He did get $ from at least 2 other private schools.

What should my daughter be doing now for prep in writing application?

Gathering her recommendations, working on her essays because it really is a process and the one chance she is going to get to tell her story. She may have to do revisions and rewrites and some schools may ask for supplemental information.

she is applying to a couple scholarships right now.
