Questions:
1) Does Bio 6A, 6B, 6C cover LIFESCI 1 and LIFESCI 2?
2) Does CHEM 1A, 1B, 1C cover CHEM 20A, CHEM 20B, CHEM 20L and CHEM 20AL?
3) Does CHEM 12A AND CHEM12B cover CHEM 30A, CHEM 30b and CHEM 30L?
4) What do I do if LIFESCI 3 and LIFESCI 4 have no courses articulated at De Anza?

2 year schedule:

Summer 2008: MATH 1B
EWRT 1B

Fall 2008: BIOL 6A
CHEM 1A
PHYSICS 4A

Winter 2009: BIOL 6B
CHEM 1B
MATH 1C

Spring 2009: BIOL 6C
CHEM 1C
PHYSICS 4B

Summer 2009: PHYSICS 4C
CHEM 12A

Fall 2009: CHEM 12B

Winter 2010:IGETC stuff

Spring 2010: IGETC stuff

more questions:
1) Does this schedule look okay to you?
2) I took the AP Bio test, can I skip BIOL 6a?
3) is it possible to apply for fall 2009?

Thanks soooo much if you read all this! And please give me advice!

1) Does Bio 6A, 6B, 6C cover LIFESCI 1 and LIFESCI 2?
According to Assist, yes.
2) Does CHEM 1A, 1B, 1C cover CHEM 20A, CHEM 20B, CHEM 20L and CHEM 20AL?
According to Assist, yes.
3) Does CHEM 12A AND CHEM12B cover CHEM 30A, CHEM 30b and CHEM 30L?
According to Assist, yes.

For the first three questions, if you want to really be sure about this ask an admission counselor from UCLA.

4) What do I do if LIFESCI 3 and LIFESCI 4 have no courses articulated at De Anza?
Two options: Find another CC that offers it or take it later when you transfer.
According to a transfer counselor that I have talked to, they do not take it against you if your school doesn’t offer the course that you need.

The schedule looks okay. If you are not behind in English classes, this should be fine.
consider also your foreign language requirement since you might have to squeeze it into your schedule to get it out of the way.
applying for fall 2009 would require you to complete the 60 units needed before you transfer.
read about the IGETC stuff and even though you might think it’s still pretty early, see if you can get some easy classes out of the way.

hey thanks lazysoul. I think I have the foreign language thing out of the way because I took 4 years of Japanese in high school. I also have the English classes done after this summer.

wow. good luck taking bio, chem and physics in the same quarter. i guess it’s doable but depending on what professors you have it could turn out to be a nightmare.
personally, i think taking 3 science classes will seem very repetitive and boring. maybe you should try to mix in a G.E class every quarter. it’s a personal preference, i guess.

Also, i dont believe you can skip bio 6a with AP scores. I tried to skip and they wouldnt let me. check with a counselor just in case.

Just a warning with AP scores, check and double check that the university you want to transfer to lets you skip certain classes with the grade you got…not just whether De Anza lets you skip! i kinda got screwed with that and ended up having to go back and take courses.

Are you dead set on UCLA? Because if you are applying to other UC’s, i would recommend finishing the Chem 12 series because some of the UC’s want the series completed.

I completely forgot to add in something. Keep in mind that your schedule will most likely change. Unless you’re very lucky, it is likely that you will have a tough time getting into some of the science classes because they fill up super quick! I would suggest joining the honors program. If you take one honors class every quarter, you get priority registration. this really helps out in your first few quarters b/c you’re priority is not very high with little to no units completed. Additionally, you have the luxury of picking certain professors and with my experience with De Anza’s science department (esp. gen chem) this can really help you out!

thanks Jas88! I think having 3 science classes in a quarter wont be that bad for me because in high school, I took Calc Ab and Physics Honors and Bio AP in the same year and it was fine. I thought it would be best to complete the major requirements first because thats what the UCs look at most.

I am dead set on UCLA, but i should probalby call them about AP scores.
