please match a college for me?

Asian American-Male
Texas resident
GPA 3.45/4 unweighted - 4.5/6 Weighted (6 = honors/AP A)
6 honors or AP classes
SAT-1900
top 40ish% (very competitive school top 5 in Houston area)
Gold Presidential service award(250 volunteering hrs) YES Medal (100 volunteering hours) , Business club (DECA), medical club (HOSA), Latin club, work at vet's office- 1 year

I want to stay close to home, unless I'm going to a top notch school away from home. doesn't have to be a national university, a masters university would be fine.
I'm leaning toward going to a private college/university
major: either biochemistry or biology

What is a good match for me?

Rice would be a fantastic low reach, high match for you. Especially since you're interested in staying in Houston.

Well I'm neither from Texas nor going to a university in Texas (I'm from Washington and am going to Cornell) but I've researched all over the nation like crazy. I think a good school for you would be SMU (Southern Methodist University), a medium size, private school in Houston that is really solid all around. Of course University of Texas-Austin is also considered a "public ivy" and is a great all-around university and college experience. Those would both be definite matches.

In all respect, I think Rice would be pretty hard with a 3.45 GPA

Well I'm not familiar with the Texas area, but I just wanted to say - way to go! College will be no problem for you :)

*I'm a bio major to

lol ya.. I already no I'm not getting into Rice

when did SMU move from Houston to Dallas?

still a nice school regardless. Go Mustangs!

Ok, ok sorry. I mean hey, you have to have reaches.

How about any out of state private colleges? Tulane?

Johns Hopkins in Maryland has great biology departments, could be your reach.
UCSD is one of the nation's best when it comes to sciences, ESPECIALLY biological sciences. (UC San Diego).
Carnegie Mellon is another great science school, also good in the arts, could be a low-reach/high match for you. I also think you should try for Rice since you're in-state.

I would think that with a 3.45UW GPA, top 40% of class, 1900 SAT, it would basically be impossible to get into Rice, JHU, CMU, UCSD. UT in-state, SMU, Baylor, Tulane should all be possibilities, though.

And maybe Trinity in San Antonio.

Lot of choices for you in-state: Baylor, Trinity, Southwestern, Austin College, Texas Tech, TCU, Univ of Incarnate Word, St. Edward's, U of Dallas...

I have been reading in our newspaper about U of Houston moving up in the rankings but you are probably more familiar with it than I am. My D was getting ads for their honors program.

Each school has its own personality so I would try to visit before you apply. You could also look into schools in Arkansas and Louisiana since they aren't that far away. One of my D's friends is considering Hendrix for Biology. Good luck.

I don't wanna go to UH at all that is my last choice..

also can anyone give me info on Trinity in San Antonio...what is their early action admission rate?

SMU is in Dallas by the way. Not Houston.
