I am currently pursueing the IB diploma in an international school in Thailand. I am a very math/physics focused type of person, rather than being all round. I would prefer universities that have small classes where you can be involved in class discussions rather than juz taking notes from a seminar. I like to ask lots of questions during all classes, and to ensure this, the classes must be small and the professors must be willing and smart.

Please give me a list of universities that u think i have a chance, and that might fit my personality... thx in advance for all replies :D

Harvey Mudd

HAHAHA how fortunate... i did apply there.... Although i am not sure how my chances of admission at harvey mudd looks... any ideas on my chances at HMC??

ps. i am from thailand and not applying to scholarship, my recommendations were dynamite although i think my essay was juz average

I think that you will be accepted by Harvey Mudd.

i do believe harvey mudd has a limited international financial aid package... that might be a bit of a problem if you are looking for a lot of aid.

otherwise, your math/science scores look pretty good. since you are from overseas, i wouldn't expect your verbal and writing would be too great. hmc is big on writing and such. by the end of year 1, you will be much better at english than 99% of the general US populus. my friend from korea (at mudd) is being whipped into shape.

if you have any futher questions regarding mudd, i'll be happy to answer them (i go to mudd).

I am not applying for financial aid btw... but i guess that doesnt relli matter now.... I believe i will get decision in a few weeks time yes?

Also, i noticed that the middle 50% of the people accepted to mudd has sat 1 math scores of 710-800. This means that the bottom 25% of the people accepted to mudd has 710 or lower on their sat 1 math (which is considerably low for such a great college).

Another thing, mudd has very low enrollment %. any explanation for this?

The SAT range at Harvey Mudd is on par with the best engineering programs in the country.

Collegehelp, I do believe Anon is asking about Harvey Mudd's yield rate, not acceptance rate. HMC has a yield rate of 25%, which is pretty low.

Anonamous, HMC's yield rate is due to the fact that its admissions standards are so high, that their admitted students usually have acceptances from other top Engineering programs like Caltech, MIT, Stanford, Rice, Cal and Princeton. But don't let that yield rate fool you. Even Caltech has a yield rate of roughly 35% and Carnegie mellon's yield rate is under 25%. So yield and quality aren't related. HMC is the real deal.

Ouch!

Well anyways, Johns Hopkins University.

What's your GPA by the way?

ihateCA, his/her scores are like that because he/she is an international student.

no gpa or class rank.... i follow the british curriculum....

but as for class rank.. it varies from classes to classes. on math class i believe to be the 1st or 2nd out of about 140 students. for economics class however, i think i am only average. This is due to switching from business studies to do economics mid way through the course. lol
