Please Mr. UPS man, come our way!!!

Who do you consider his “sidekick”, vitrac?

Looked back at last years DHS thread. I’d noted that my s’s yr (the year before) the pkg came on the 18th. Last yr recipients received it on the 19th and the 20th. So… hang in there!! Its soon!!! Good luck!

From “accepted” thread, but your contributions, jym626, should also be recognized

If Fallenchemist and AVHS Dad were drafted by the CIA, Osama Bin Laden would’ve been captured by now.

Thats very kind, vitrac. In fact, I’ll take a little credit (just a little) for “mentoring” fallenchemist when he was going through the process with his daughter the year after my s did. He has done a great job providing tons of useful information, and putting a few snarky posters in their place too, a while back!! :)

Ah…the torch is passed!

:D
Take a look at the registration dates on CC. Fallenchemist is a young whippersnapper in comparison to some of us old timers on CC  In fact I was actually on the “old” board http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/</a> starting in 2003, I believe, which they changed in August of '04 (but I didnt post on the “new” board, after they converted to the new format until October which is why the registration date says October). I am thankful to fallenchemist for taking on such an active, educative role in the TU thread as both an alum and a proud TU dad.

While we are thanking old TU helpful parents, I’d like to send a shout out to ivoryk, jmmom, concerneddad, thatmom, mercymom, citymomteacher, curiouser and hovermom, to name a few, who were extremely helpful during my s’s admission and acceptance cycle. Hope I didn’t leave anyone out.
Thanks all!!

Who are you calling old??!!??

Thanks for the very kind comments flying phoenix, Vitrac, and all else. It is a pleasure to help, and I always learn new stuff also. As jym says, she preceded me and has been helping potential Tulane students for some time, as well as others. I never checked, but I bet Rice gets the benefit of her expertise as well. And there are the others she mentions, as well as NewHope and Benetode, as well as some others I know I am forgetting (sorry!). And I see a new crop coming on like AVHS, including some students like gabby. I know it is hard for students to stay with this once they start school, but I am grateful to the ones that check in every now and then like Zaichev and others that are already Tulanians and add insight and perspective. Keeps us alums with rose-colored memories honest.

I am sure many of the other boards are friendly and helpful, but I have to say of the ones I have checked few are as great as this one. Must be the New Orleans influence.

^^^ I am calling MYSELF old!! You are the young whippersnapper, FC!

And yes-- though less active than in past eyars on the college threads, I’ve been sharing info on the Rice thread, as well as others. Fun to mentor folks and share info. You helping on your s’s college thread too?

Just a little. The Truman thread is not heavily trafficked, although more active this year than in the past. Did have a very interesting back and forth with a student from Sweden (PM only) that was looking strongly at Truman, and I got my S to write him. But I have noticed there is a direct, positive correlation between the ranking of a school and the amount of attention it gets on CC, or at least it seems that way to me.

I also feel the need to pay homage to fallenchemist, jym626 and AVHS. You have all been so helpful, supportive, and caring throughout this whole, sometimes very stressful, process. Your knowledge, insight and wisdom have been invaluable to me, as well as many others. There have been many dinner conversations at my house about Tulane, and it’s inevitable that the words "Fallenchemist said” come out of my mouth at least once throughout the conversation. I truly can’t thank you enough!

Thanks for the update on the date and much relief of stress. I had thought that we were supposed to hear by President’s Day this year. When nothing arrived on Monday, and then Tuesday, my son was starting think of where else he can get scholarships… :(

He has been accepted at UT-Austin (scholarship stingy), Utah State (full tuition), Oklahoma State (Institutional Scholar), Tulane, and University of Arkansas (Chancellor’s Scholarship). On Monday, he learned he had received their Chancellor’s Scholarship (8K per year), but was not selected as a finalist for the Prestigious Fellowships. That means he was in the top 250 (Chancellors), but not in the top 150 (finalists).

Utah State upped the offer yesterday. He has full tuition. Room & Board is only about $5500 per year plus they gave him an amazing $400 housing scholarship for one year  With just a student loan, he can attend Utah State.

He wants to major in Environmental Science, so Utah would be a good choice, but Tulane would be even better. He would like to attend UT, but they have few scholarships to give out and we’re not holding our breath.

But now we can at least relax and know that Tulane hasn’t even notified winners. He thought he was out of the running for Tulane. He drew a tree with a crossword puzzle in the branches that showed all the things that he liked and learned in school. Then in the roots were the words that illustrated his values. It started as a crossword puzzle that ended up as a tree.

Here’s to hoping that Tulane liked it …

Well, I am just assuming that one of the kids that are on CC or whose parents are will be a winner and post when they get notified. Hopefully any day now…

Spoke with someone in the know at TU. The official word is that the packages will go out Friday 2/19 for receipt on Sat or Monday (depending upon distance and weather). So keep breathing for a few more days.

Thanks for the inside scoop dad55! Good luck everyone!!

My daughter received an acceptance letter from Tulane yesterday vis US Postal Service. It was not a big package, just two pages in a large envelope

Thanks KY Crusader, but this thread is about people that applied for the Deans’ Honor Scholorship, where winners get notified by UPS. I know that is not obvious from the thread title. You would have had to have read old threads about the DHS.

None-the-less, super congrats to your D!! Hope she is happy about that.

eokitty: Your son’s project sounds great! Really creative, and a good way of tying a lot of things in.

I’m not really proud of my box project…it was done in a rush due to the other school things I had to get done…I really hated that week of December, come to think of it. So, if I don’t get it, I won’t necessarily be surprised (not that it wouldn’t be disappointing). I’m hoping the recommendation/my grades and test scores will also contribute. But I have to stop worrying…(if only I could).

I’d also like to join in the chorus of thanks to fallenchemist, Vitrac, and jym626. I might not post all the time, but I read posts all the time and things that have been said have helped immensely!

surely i’m not the only one up early to begin the ups vigil?? coffee made if anyone needs a cup… dog in so as not to run off the ups truck. we know its doubtful but i’m the assigned wait person as son off at an interview today.

@parent56 Where in the country are you? I feel like I’m watching that scene in George of the Jungle where “tooki-tooki” is winging it through the country…maybe we can track as things arrive through different points throughout the nation, so that we up north can know when we should hope for a letter and at what point we should start buying Kleenex…

flying phoenix we are in alabama, …maybe we could borrow santa’s norad radar system? would be christmas here if ups actually drives into our driveway.
